Yes, this needed its own topic. Stfu.
But yeah, I love this cheesy shit. The books and the TV show.
You know how people have their dedicated, super collections like old video games? One day, mine will be collecting Goosebumps stuff.

We don't talk about those movies though...

so as I mentioned in the Alex Cross topic, I tried a few early books when the series was new. I was like 12 or 13 at the time

What made me stop was every book I read had the same formula. I noticed that it seemed like in each book, the first chapter always ended with a jump scare. Main character sees a monster. Then chapter 2 starts and you find out immediately that its just their older brother in a mask. I swear that happened in every book

One of the schools I went to didn't have Goosebumps, so I had to read crummy alternatives like Spooksville and The Shadow Zone lol
The former got made into a short-lived, live-action series like a decade or so after the books were a thing, so that was weird.

Goosebumps 2000s was my jam, eventually ordered all of them off Scholastic at the time. Brain Juice looked so appetizing to kid me

Another trope I didn't like was that a good portion of them ended with cruel twist endings.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CruelTwistEnding
At the time it made me think every single one of them would get sequels resolving them lol.
Was still part of my childhood though so I have fond memories. Some of my first crushes were from reading these books.

Agreed, I hate them for the cruel twist ending they were just terrifying for no reason. Gave me trust issues lol

Also, what at the bold part

I was crazy about Goosebumps as a kid, and honestly? I still love it whenever I want to go on a nostalgia trip.

My collection of 40 or so books is still on my bookshelf, even.

There was one where people like your mother were taken over by body snatchers or being impersonated by evil aliens? And you had to choose who to go with, which one was your real mother? Spoiler they're both evil aliens and you lose. I remember being so pissed off at that.

Even after cheating to try to find the correct path, finding out there was no correct path made me quit goosebumps in its entirety. Almost

I remember that one, it was Secret Agent Grandma I think? Iirc one choice let you know that it was the evil grandma and that was a bad end, the other was like your grandma, but she was in an organization or something like that, there was def. a right choice, but it was 50/50

I had the first 50 or so regular books, plus the CYOA, plus the Christmas ones, plus plus plus.

Then I sold them all to a bookstore for like $20 when I was a teen. Dumb as shit.

I wish someone made a movie that were closer to the books. The film adaptation of Scary Story to Tell in the Dark felt more like a Goosebumps movie that the actual Goosebumps movies.

Give Yourself Goosebumps loved yanking your chain.

Option A: You die.

Option B: You survive! ... for a page or two, then you die anyway.

There was one that literally gave you an endless loop when you got lost in a maze of mirrors or something.

I do love the gorey ways you can get maimed/killed though.

There was this one bad end in the mummy book where you got grabbed by the mummy. One of your options was to try to break free from his grasp.

You were them told you couldn't continue the book. Because while you got free from the mummy... the mummy still had your arm, and you can't turn the pages with your other hand.

I probably read them all. That trampoline ending and the ending of the lost treasure were the two I can vividly remember for some reason. Oh and the baseball star one from that wish one.
