People do treat him as a serious reviewer (as a compliment) all the time. I get that there is a distinction where some of his videos are more jokey than others, but it's just lazy to dismiss criticism of him as "if he acted over the line it's just a joke, if he said something poignant it's because he's a good reviewer"

I think some of his "serious" reviews are good, but they're more the kind of review for an audience who is already familiar with the game. And he's baited his audience into unfairly contrasting them with stuff like IGN reviews, which I'm not gonna act like are without problems, but are more focused on whether you should get a game as a consumer.

People seem to want to seek out opinions outside of the game journalist bubble, but then they simply attribute the same shit to those people and create another weird bubble around their thoughts and opinions.

Which is also a problem when Dunkey mocked IGN in how they do reviews but then it shows that he is just as bad as he has criticized

Yeah, and I think that's why it's dumb for him to review. You know that he's also going to go more out of his way to cherry pick that most absurd things because he doesn't care enough to portray the game more fairly. And again I don't care specifically about XB, I just think it's a tiresome way to grab attention for a video

For me personally I just don't care for him, and don't really see to what audience his humor is for.

This really only applies to Pat with Liam and Matt. Woolie and Pat's friendship predated Matt and Liam and continues existing after Liam went to the phantom zone or wherever he disappeared to.

Watching dunkey videos is like going to have a shit at pat morrita's house. As for his gaming credentials he still has the high score in bowser's big burrito so that says something.

Yes. Woolie was also the one who originally met Liam, also through game testing.

I called that out about Death Stranding when I watched that video, since I loved that game. But not once did that make me feel like just X'ing him out entirely >_>.

He also came back and mentioned that he's played through it 2-3 more times in a different videos. I think he was still saying it was dumb but he was also saying it was fun to play.

You can tell when gaming is a hobby or someones life. Which, either is fine. But guys like this make me realize even though I been gaming my entire life, it's still just a hobby to me. I've never got emotionally invested like that.

Liam does videos with Matt but seems Liam and Woolie are still friends while Liam himself is involved working on his own game now

Pat and Woolie is still my favorite pair to listen to >_> DMC games and Front Mission 3 videos were so good

I think Dunkey's reviews are genuinely his opinions played up for comedic effect, and there's no problem with that. You can also tell what types of games he does and doesnt like, but he still gives the games he doesnt like a shot. Tbh more reviewers should be open about their tastes.

At the end of the day tho he just makes funny vids. Some of you are just nitpicking and biased i win bye bye

Also. There's an easy solution to this.

I blocked Criticals channel when Elden Ring came out cause he always has spoilers (to me) in his thumbnails. Then I unblocked it when I was done with the game.

Well I'm suggesting that he might not actually be very good at it, despite what he pulls in, and the more one has to explain why it's good the less confident it seems to let the content speak for itself.

The game clearly wants you to get out of Vehicles because they aren't meant to be Mountain Bikes or Jeeps, but he was complaining you couldn't scale mountains with the bike.

There's nothing wrong with intentionally pushing the boundaries of what's possible in a game imo. Many gamers do not want to "follow the rules" or "play the game correctly", and they don't like games whose mechanics fall apart very easily when you try to push the boundaries. I love DS, but I also enjoy following the bread crumbs the developer leaves for me rather than push mechanical boundaries.

I don't mean stuff like falling down mountains, but driving was annoying in the game since there were rocks around most of the compounds.

also, the stuff with combat and bosses were weak, IMO.

Yeah. I can get why someone would get irritated when that was 80% of your review. Plus, Critical wasn't doing that, he was just bad lol. He was doing super easy sections if you know how to play >_>. But this is about Dunkey. Like I said, I shrugged it off even though I disagreed with his assessment. And I used Dunkey's taught insight himself to realize that Dunkey just doesn't like the type of game and I will have to take his reviews with a grain of salt when covering similar games. I've also seen him make games look better than they were to me when I played them. So, to me, it's a wash.

You can't hide behind "joke's on them I was only pretending to be stupid" forever, because then you get DSP. And if the vids that aren't dunkviews are supposed to be satirical, it sure is curious how he shares the exact same opinions in his serious vids that he expressed in the satire vids.

I do feel like people fell off of him really abruptly. I guess his schtick just got repetitive.

I disagree with most of dunkey's gaming opinions tbh. But that's part of why I enjoy the channel.

The thing about him and JPRGs too is he's mentioned he used to play a lot of RPGs as a kid and in the last few years even mentioned how much he liked Persona 5 and Dragon Quest XI. I mean he didn't LOVE DQXI but he didn't hate it either. He put it up as number 3 in his best of 2021 video.
