Can't speak for everyone, but I personally wouldn't be able to work in a place that smells the way Subways usually smell like.

I would think McDonald's is worse. Subway is rarely packed and you only have to make a sandwich as quickly as the indecisive person on the other side of the glass tells you what goes on next. McDonald's post covid seems like there's a line around the building 24/7 and I'm sure management is on everyone's ass to get the food out there as quickly as possible to hit their target metrics.

subway doesn't protect it's franchises against other franchises, so you have multiple subways in an area that cannot support that many subways.

mcdonalds does protect you from another mcdonalds opening up within X miles of your location.

You become noseblind to it within a month.

Subway was honestly my favorite job I've had when the management/team were good. After years of being there, when new management took over, it crashed and burned and I got out pretty fast. Have a much better paying job now, with great benefits, but Subway was still the job I had the most fun at. Was fun making sandwiches, oddly enough.

Loved National Sandwich Day, when it was just pure chaos (100+ subs per hour). But yeah, Subway has a higher turnover rate than average fast food places. There is a lot of prep work out of sight that you have to take care of, and some locations strict enforcement of the "productivity chart" often leaves places understaffed when it gets busy.

McD's sounds easier, most of the time you're just making what's on the menu unlike subway where you have to listen to every customer's individual order

McDonalds is becoming more self serve. The one I usually go to doesn't allow you to order at the register anymore, only pay. I don't know their exact process to preparing the food, but I can't imagine it taking more than a minute. But every time I'm at Subway, the person in front of me can never decide what they want. And it's usually just one person working there at a time. Working for Subway is definitely worse.

I would have a love-hate relationship with Subway

Most subways I go to, seems like there's only one or two people working there

On paper, that would be awesome because I can do whatever I want on my down time. But it would suck, because when I'm getting slammed I'm by myself. Plus I would worry about robberies. Can't do shit if I'm alone.

Mcdonalds will train you to be a beef patty inversion dynamics engineer or a tuber lipoimmersion process technician.

Meanwhile the only credential you get at Subway is 'sandwich artist'

Now here's the question, would you rather work at Subway/McDonald's, or manual labor at a large as warehouse?

I worked receiving and later as a porter at a warehouse. The company was called Peyton's, they did warehousing and distribution for Krogers. All of the people loading and unloading used forklifts, so its not like the labor was super physical. The receiving job was just scanning and tagging stuff, and the porter job was just riding a motorized floor cleaner around the warehouse for 8 hours. Would occasionally have to physically sweep, which sucked.

As to answer the question posted, probably Subway, but I'm not a fan of having to make food. I don't mind doing the wings at pizza hut, but that's about it. I'd prefer delivery work to either.

I'm curious to know what things she told you, because having worked there for years, I cant think of anything that would turn someone away. Of course, since it's nothing but franchise owners, some no doubt take huge shortcuts.

I luckily worked for a large grouping with about 300 locations.

I worked at Subway once. I liked the job, tbh But not when I worked with this one guy. He made me wash dishes all day. I dont mind washing some. But I like making subs. If he wasnt there, the job would have been much better

Chances are, some of the subways are owned by the same person. Most subway owners I knew owned at least 2 They are cheap to buy And they also have the most in the world, I believe

Stuff like reprinting labels so food won't look like it's past its expiration date. Just mostly food safety stuff.

Also, it was a college town so most likely yes it was a shit franchise.

Fair. That is an easy out for lazy locations. I got a manager fired for that before one time. I went to help out another location by request of my GM. I get there, start my process of checking everything I have...got into the back refrigerator and started finding stacks of expired product. When I can smell bad spinach through its sealed bags, something's wrong.

I took out everything, stacked it and made a list. Sent it to my GM. That manager was gone days later.
