6"1

8/28/22 starting weight is just about a flat 300lb

Lowest like 6 or 7 years ago last time i lost weight was 198lb :(

Doing pretty good, just started doing 16/8. I know its a "fad" but so long as the calories i put in are less than what i use, i should lose weight. Don't really rely on the fasting "science" , but i like the scheduling of eating as a guideline for my daily life. Trying to go into this weightloss journey slowly so i can stick to it.
Downloaded a fasting timer app so I dont have to rely on strict times and just go by when i last ate. Want to eventually add weight training and cardio in a bit.

Haven't really counted my calories yet since im just starting and should be able to lose weight easy as long as i stick with it. I've had history of gaining and losing weight so im pretty well trained on how many calories most stuff has.
Usually break my fast with some overnight oats and chia seeds so i dont get too hungry for my main meal. Im a big eater so if i get really hungry, i tend to eat a LOT and mostly junk like burger king or taco bell. I find having something filling and lots of fiber as my first meal allows me a few hours of not getting too hungry and able to prepare a healther dinner. Know its mostly calories in vs calories out, but i tend to be able to eat a more satisfying meal/s since im having it in a shorter time.

Hard for me to cook or eat healthy since my wife works an 8-5, and i watch my baby all day by myself in the mean time. Soo having that oatmeal and chia ready after my fast till i can make something when my wife gets home is good for me.

Anyway, probably just water weight and early just normal fluctuation but im at 295lb this morning.

tldr. Trying to lose 100lb with intermittent fasting since i have no time to eat in the mornings anyway wathcing my son. Know its a fad, but i just like the scheduling set up to have it and having a guidline. Calories in vs calories out is what matters most.

Thinking about making an egg roll in a bowl i saw online with other back of slaw mix i have and ground beef.

Just looking for little bit of cardio or lifting. Only have certain times when i can just focus on working out.

Was hungrier earlier today but that seems to have passed. Been drinking coffee and water. Now that im over 18hrs fasted, im not even really too hungry. But i am gonna break my fast and eat my oatmeal and chia seed concoction.

That looks delicious, but be really careful w/ food like that, calories can add up real quick. I would make sure you are using low calorie bread, low calorie bbq sauce, and low calorie dressing on the slaw.

Counting calories on an app like MyFitnessPal is really easy, I would start doing it ASAP. They got pretty much any food at the grocery store already logged in it (or just scan a barcode and nutrition facts are uploaded), they even have lots of popular restaurant menus and all those nutrition facts already loaded. Also be pretty diligent in measuring out or weighing out your food too. One of the biggest reasons diets fail is that people in general massively underestimate how many calories they are actually eating.

Maybe later on.
Im trying not to be tooo restrictive right now starting off. Im just starting and REALLY overweight so losing weight for me should be steady at first so long as i don't binge on stuff like i have been known to do and keep to a caloric deficit.
BMR is like 2,300 and its being restricted to 8 hours of day. Allows me some wiggle room on my meals which is why i like the intermittent fasting. Dont feel too guilty about eating the rolls of sandwiches. I try to keep the protein up but not too restricted on the carbs.

Usually when i stall, i have to cut out the breads and stuff more.

Yeah i used myfitnesspal a lot in my last weight loss journey so im sort of better on the knowing calorie numbers than other people who just start i think. I still read labels now though so i know the general amount of what i eat for now. Only reason why i gained so much weight even though i know how much calories are in the food i eat is because it was delicious and i didnt care haha.

Until i start stalling on weight loss, im not gonna be too strict on counting calories on myfitness pal again. I think thats why i like the idea of IF for me to start. I dont want to be too strict right now because i think mentally thats where people and me burnout on trying to lose weight. IF lets me eat a bigger meal which i like and is satisfying to me.
Of course, i still have to actively stay away from fast food which i would destroy and are calorie bombs. Especially for me who would order multiple items and fries or something haha.

Made an egg roll in a bowl. Kinda disappointed with the recipe i used. Using yum yum sauce from a bottle i had helped, but its a whopping 170 calories for 2 table spoons lol
Maybe wouldve been better with ground pork instead of lean ground beef.

if you aren't counting calories you won't lose weight.

you'll lose some, maybe down to 250 or so, but just anticipate having to count calories for a few weeks at some point. (youll quickly be able to do it in your head).

also: eat vegetables. fruit. eat some fucking vegetables like goddamn.

I have been in intermittent fasting for a year and a half, and doing OMAD since April, I found it really helps keep the weight off, even though my one meal is pretty large, and sometimes I binge on sweets. For example, I am going to eat 2 or 3 of those large coffee cake muffins from Costco.

Intermittent fasting got me from 240 down to 200 relatively easily. I still rarely eat during the morning and afternoon but I'm a bit less strict since I'm eating to maintain my weight and encourage some muscle growth from my workouts. Once I've filled my body out with some more visible muscle I'll probably go back to stricter fasting to get down to around 190.

I should mention it's been around a year since I started and going without snacking or breakfast/lunch pretty much feels inconsequentially easy at this point.

Hey 250 is my goal till i start to do strict calorie count so i hope. Will bump up the excercise by then too. Still just easing in.
I used to be very strict with myfitnesspal so i know the general amounts of food i eat and do add it up in my head but not super strict, just estimate.

Yeah i do need to eat some more fruit. Ate an apple yesterday which is a start.
I just ate a bunch of coleslaw mix the past few days, isnt that enough vegetables? Lol
I do find it hard to incorporate though. Don't know if it will help but also taking multivitamins for anything i dont get through food. I know i get decent fiber with the oats and chia seeds though.
Will probably start getting my fruit in through smoothies.

smoothies are great you can easily add a cup of spinach to the smoothie and you won't even taste it. bam, huge-ass serving of one of the best vegetables.

multivitamins do nothing. they won't hurt, but they don't work. if they did work, you could eat 2000 calories of doritos + multivitamins and be okay. people have tried, it doesn't work.

for some reason (we dont know why exactly) artificial vitamins are basically worthless. leading theory is we don't absorb them, just excrete them quickly. for some reason we absorb the vitamins better from normal food.

these are awesome if you cant cook or prep a meal:

https://tinyurl.com/bde2bz9p

they are delicious, taste like a candy bar but vitamins. 20g of protein is a fuckload. you can get em at walmart or target by the protein powder.

I did Intermittent Fasting and I felt like it worked. I tried to eat 2000 calories within an 8 hour window, low carbs, low sugar, low fat, high protein. Usually had a cheat day once a week (but don't go crazy). I lost about 20 pounds in 4 or 5 months. I didn't really work out >_> But if I did, it'd probably be even higher

I guess some "shortcuts" I did was cut out bread and rolls from sandwiches: just have a burger patty or the meat by itself. No condiments. Drank water instead of soda/juice. All that stuff really helps. And definitely get MyFitnessPal to count calories. That app has everything on it.

Good to hear other peoples success with it. I too feel like the fasting gets pretty easy although still noticeable for me.

I think the real test for me is keeping it up with my work schedule. I work night shift 7p-730a usually 2 nights on friday and saturday.
Trying to schedule it so i eat my last big meal before 1pm so i can eat breakfast after i get off. I dont see myself being able to sleep with fasting over 12-16 hours. And then bring my oatmeal to eat during the middle of the night my second shift if i need it. I usually dont eat during my shift anyway, but it'll be good to keep it just in case or just est right after i get of on ny drive home. I keep in a big mason jar and is usually pourable enough to drink.

Gonna be my first time trying to keep it up during my work shifts.

intermittent fasting ONLY works because it slaps the donut from your hands late at night when you are tired and maybe drunk.

really it gives you a rule that increases your discipline. much more empowering to know you're losing weight not cause of some fad, but because you have that discipline.

im about 1 day from cutting out all bread and pasta too. gonna be hard at first but im not fucking around this time.

i was 240 lbs, 18 months ago.

I started dieting, SORT OF, but I drank a lot. like 700 calories of vodka a day.

got down to 220 in May of this year. Started running. Started calorie counting. stopped drinking like a crazy person. got down to 209 on august 1, then i bought a gym membership 31 days ago.

now im 194. that's 15 lbs in a month.

fuck yes. it's so much better.

i literally have to go pants shopping this weekend because i only have 2 pairs of pants that fit. i bought some clothes in july (38/32 pants) and they already don't fit.

i got a pair of jeans 2 weeks ago, 36-inch waste cause i didn't think i would get thinner so quickly. they are ALREADY TOO BIG, but at least i CAN wear them with a belt, for now.

I have to go buy 1 pair of 34s this weekend, even tho i need more pants i know i should just wait until im in 32s. even if i lose more weight, 32s will never swallow me whole.

im gonna bodybuild for real this time also, so I dont really want to get smaller than that.

i have a box of old 32-waist jeans in the closet.

im vegetarian.

I know people say calories in vs calories out is all that matters. But there has two be more than that, at least for me, since I eat as much(and sometimes more) then I did before I started fasting, and I am down at least 30 lbs. And no, I havent increased the amount of exercise I get.
Edit: and I dont count calories or restrict carbs. Though it should be sad that I dont consume a lot of refined sugar, only drink a couple sodas a week, and half my diet is fruits and vegetables

The Vitamin Verdict

The researchers concluded that multivitamins dont reduce the risk for heart disease, cancer, cognitive decline (such as memory loss and slowed-down thinking) or an early death. They also noted that in prior studies, vitamin E and beta-carotene supplements appear to be harmful, especially at high doses.

Pills are not a shortcut to better health and the prevention of chronic diseases, says Larry Appel, M.D., director of the Johns Hopkins Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research. Other nutrition recommendations have much stronger evidence of benefitseating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and reducing the amount of saturated fat, trans fat, sodium and sugar you eat.

The exception is supplemental folic acid for women of child-bearing potential, Appel says. Folic acid prevents neural tube defects in babies when women take it before and during early pregnancy. Thats why multivitamins are recommended for young women. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all women of reproductive age get 400 micrograms of folic acid daily. The amount of iron in a multivitamin may also be beneficial for women of child-bearing potential, Appel adds.

I dont recommend other supplements, Appel says. If you follow a healthy diet, you can get all of the vitamins and minerals you need from food.

you are not counting calories. you can't just say "im eating less." as humans we are virtually incapable of realizing how much we actually are ingesting, especially with liquid calories. I, for example, had literally no idea that i was taking in 700 calories of vodka a day when i drank. I thought it was more like 70 calories.

there was no doubt something like that in your diet that you didn't realize actually had a bazillion calories. or you were eating more often than you realized.

it's literally physics/thermodynamics.

calories in, calories out is like 99% of what's happening with average weigh loss over time. this is irrefutable.

Good job man! Keep it up! Whats your height?
I know what you mean. I watched a lot of IF videos that try to shill it with wording like better fat burning or ketosis stage and etc other buzzwords. It could be like that, probably more not, but I am just using it strictly for the rule of not eating unless its within a window.

I still just stick to the calories in vs out, but the rule of eating only certain amount of hours helps me split up my 2,300 calories easier for me.
When i lost 60-80lbs last time, i was strictly the 5 small meals a day type of guy with high protein, low carb. It worked, but it was a lot of planning and time and couldnt wait to be done and reach my "goal".

You don't need to count calories to realize that a 2,400 pulled pork mac and cheese dish has too many calories. Just avoid high calorie foods as a general rule. Nobody is arguing you should ignore calories when you're fasting, just that stressing about the exact number of calories you get is often such an additional mental tax on an already difficult task (Permanently changing your dietary habits) that it's often counter-intuitive. If you're an average sized but over-weight male, generally eating less than 2,000 calories a day will probably cause you to lose weight. When you're fasting, that basically means "Don't eat a 1lb colossal burger with fries and down it with three beers" for dinner. Cut out most liquid calories and eat a filling but not excessive meal in the evening. Learn that it's okay to be a little hungry sometimes. If you make these changes and your not losing weight, then you probably just need to be a bit more critical about your eating still.

Nice, the 190s is my ultimate goal and im only an inch if even taller.
Im 32 now as well. Was much easier to exercise before everything was sore or hurting
Old me would have ate like 2 of those big portioned pulled pork sandwiches so eating only one is a big deal haha.

Just got done with a light walk. Was originally shooting the basketball around for a few minutes but i guess the lights are off at 9pm no matter what and messing with the timer switch doesnt do anything. So yeah just walked and shot asketball for like 45 minutes. Nothing too crazy right now.
My right hip was starting to bother me as always soon after i started walking.

Might have to have my serious cardio workouts with my rowing machine to save my joints. Hoping losing 100lbs will help with the pain in different places, mostly my right hip.

Woke up this morning at 293.6lb. Always easy to the lose the first 5-10lbs for an overweight person who eats whatever he wants with just watching what you eat. Mostly just normal weight fluctuations from my experience.

Planning on breaking my fast around 1pm after 17 hrs. Not sure what i want to eat yet.
I still have my oatmeal with chia to help fill me up. All i know is i have to finish eating around 3 or 4pm. That way when i work overnight, i can eat something for breakfast.
First time doing IF while working so not sure how i would do with normal fasting hours because of the overnight hours when i would normally be sleeping

Man. Havent had Chipotle for years and always thought it was rather overhyped, but mannnn.... this food be hitting the right spot after 17hrs fasted.
Had a deal on doordash and some credits so i got all this food for like 18$ including tip. Steak and chicken bowl with pretty much every free option checked. Also got a kids taco just in case it wasnt enough. Struggling to finish this only meal ill have till tomorrow morning.

Didnt get any sleep for my shift tonight so i bought a zero calorie energy drink.
Since i dont really believe in the "scientific" reasoning of IF and just more for it for the eating schedule, i think i should be okayy....

I usually drank my coffee during this week with stevia packets so wouldnt really be new to me.

I know some people who do IF here arent too serious with the zero calorie sweeteners during fasting and did just fine. Im doing okay using them now so we shall see.

It is which is why i like i can eat like this and still lose weight so long as i stick to the fasting schedule and keep my calories under 2,000 calories.

The bowl itself is about 1060cal according to chipotle website.
About 250 extra for the kids meal
Even got a tortilla on the side which was 320

So about 1700-1800 calories give or take. A lot for one meal, but since im using this as my only meal for the day, it should work out lol.

To the people recommending the MyFitnessPal app earlier in the topic, y'all should know that they've now made it garbage. They were bought by some company (UnderArmour, I think?) and they became really annoying with pop-up ads and asking you to subscribe to the premium membership. The final straw was that they took the barcode scanner off the free membership. Considering its library is almost entirely user-generated and they charge ten bucks a month, that's fucking absurd.

I've been using the LoseIt app. Not only does it still have a barcode scanner, it lacks the ads and seems to run much more quickly.

Yeah it is and it was delicious lol.
I probably will eat some more stuff but that was just my first meal. Actually felt so full trying to finish that so im waiting a bit.
Need to do some grocery shopping after i get off work tomorrow.
And even if i did eat more fruit, its not very picture worthy enough to post it because i dont make it look nice or anything though.

Still trying to eat foods i like and add the fruits and veggies with my remaining calories. Want this to be a slow transition with foods i would normally eat and adding healthier options slowly while mostly focusing on weightloss and calories.
Because losing weight i feel is easier for me if it isnt mentally too restrictive and so many rules.

I dont count calories, or restrict carbs. I just get a lot of exercise, I only eat once a day, eat a lot of fruits and veggies, and restrict red meat ( I mostly eat chicken). I dont eat a lot of sugar,(I only have a couple sodas a week). But I will have some, IE, I got some coffee cake muffins from Costco, and a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which I have been craving, I will have one or 2 of the muffins as dessert. Now, my weight has been pretty steady at around 160 for the past few months. If I start to gain weight Ill cut cut out the sugary foods for a few months.

When do you eat? What time?

I used to eat my first meal at noon, 12pm to be exact. Then 2nd meal at 6pm. Would that be considered intermitent fasting?

My problem was eating junk, too many carbs and sweets. If I can do that, maybe Ill be good.
