I judge all restaurants by the quality of their fish & chips.

Chicken tenders and fries lol.

Some kind of salad with grilled chicken. Hard to ruin that.

I did step out of the box and go with a Chicken Parmesan variant at a new place recently and was very happy I did, it was great.

Tendies and fries drowned in ranch.

I usually share with my baby who only eats grilled cheese at new places.

I also base my tips on how good they are with refills

If it's traditional American my go to is a burger>club>wings. Unless their known for their wings, then that.

Either a burger, wrap, or sandwich depending on the place.

Depends in the restaurant.

Some kinda pasta is usually what Id get.

Or a rice dish if its something that serves it beyond a side.

Why would you go to a new restaurant and order Chicken tenders?

I dont have any go tos unless it's like comfort/diner food. I will always get chicken and waffles and if they don't have it I will get chicken fried steak breakfast.

this is an interseting topic since I don't think I've been to a restaurant that offers chicken tenders in over a decade

usually a chicken dish of some sort.

i don't eat out beyond fast food that much though.

though that place my parents took me to yesterday had a decent grilled chicken salad

Well for me, the only times I've had to fall back on that are when it's like an office luncheon or something where i have no choice on the location. If I do have a choice, then I usually pick something where I know I'll like several menu items.

reading the menu and asking appropriate questions to fill in the gaps that the menu doesn't cover.

At Mexican restaurants it's carnitas.

Whatever appeals to me on the menu.

Pasta or chicken fried steak Mashed potatoes in the side

Unless its a breakfast place. Then its scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, sausage, and maybe other things like other breakfast meats or other breakfast sides

I'll usually go for a special if they have some on the menu.

I mostly go to Indian or Thai restaurants so probably Vegetable Korma or Massaman Curry

I dont really have that with restaurants. I do with cakes though. I judge bakeries off their vanilla cake/cupcake. Most US bakeries are terrible at cakes. A good vanilla is usually a good indication they know what theyre doing without loading them with artificial stuff.

For Asian it's spicy chicken teriyaki or general tso's, rarey it's sweet & sour but they almost never get it right

a cheeseburger or shortribs or some sort of chicken/pasta dish, depends on what type of restaurant it is

I would like to know the one thing I could order at all of these restaurants apart from like a Coke

Depends on the type of restaurant but I always go for chilaquiles at a new Mexican place and corned beef hash at a new breakfast place.
