- Please dont spend your whole trip in San Juan , SJ is a tourist trap and yes there are cool things to see there but the island has much better places to explore.

- Go to El Yunque if you can and try and reach the top, its beautiful.

- If you want to go to the best beaches on the island itself , go to the west side to places Aguadilla, Isabela, Rincon, Cabo Rojo. As far a counting other places, Vieques and Culebras have the best beaches hands down.

- Do not go to La Perla at night unless you want to buy drugs (and be extra careful if youre a tourist, honestly dont go there at all really).

- Eat mofongo, its delicious.

- if youre going to Jobos beach , do not part against traffic, you will get a parking ticket.

- Be respectful

- if youre going to stay in an AirBnb , clean your trash.

- Do a road trip , its a small island , you can probably see most of the island in 3-4 days.

San Juan kind of seemed like a dump when I went around Christmas. You've got a few blocks that are kind of touristy, but very quickly you get to streets filled with boarded up storefronts. A lot of shit was still closed at the time, so maybe it's better when it's fully open?

Also, is Daddy Yankee super popular in PR? He had posters fucking everywhere.

The major metropolitan areas are mostly recovered, but the deeper, more rural residential areas are still having issues.

The quality of alcapurrias are directly proportional to how rustic the vendor is and how close it is to the ocean. What you want is a halfway demolished concrete house that was repurposed into an open air pub, within two minutes walking distance of a beach.

There is no good sushi anywhere on the island, but there are a lot of blasphemous takes on sushi.

There are old men selling things on the side of the road. Tourists are afraid, but they have the best snacks, all homemade stuff.

The best ice cream is all from high end establishments, or ghettos where you probably can't recognize that they even sell ice cream. Literally, if you want the homemade pumpkin ice cream, you shout through the doorway or window, and someone will come up. It's really cheap, very high quality, but it might come in, like, saran wrap.

Old San Juan has a chocolate bar. Unless you are dying from heat, get the hot chocolate.

If you don't see any people walking in an area, you shouldn't walk there either.

Don't get lost.
