The way conservative media handles this is to completely ignore it and not report it, or to immediately engage in whataboutism.

I remember his supporters here saying that Trump has nothing to do with them. That they're just interpreting his messages however they want, but Trump doesn't actually support them.

That was guaranteed the moment people stormed the Capitol and weren't met with extreme violence. The GOP as a party should have been disbanded, the people behind the insurrection jailed, the ringleaders executed. Instead we've coddled them, given the insurrectionists short prison sentences and allowed the ringleaders to walk free and lie about what actually happened that day. So when it does come again and they succeed, we will fucking deserve it. They told us who they were and what they wanted and we shrugged.

We're really seeing the same pattern as we saw prior to January 6th, and it's really concerning.

• Trump essentially spent the whole election cycle prior to the 2020 election telling his supporters the only way he'll lose is if the election is rigged and sowing distrust in our institutions.
• Trump's USPS Postmaster General fucks up USPS, slows down mail-in voting
• Long before Trump has even officially lost the election, he starts spinning up a bunch of new conspiracy theories
• His supporters fervently latch on to every single god damn one
• Trump leads a multi-state, multi-faceted effort to overturn the 2020 election results
• --60+ Election lawsuits didn't work.
• -- The SCOTUS angle for those lawsuits didn't work
• -- His own DoJ refused to participate in the bullshit
• -- The fake electors plot didn't work
• -- Mike Pence refused to participate in the bullshit (after he checked with Dan Quayle to see if there was a way he could participate)
• Remaining "solution?" Violence. Insurrection happens.

Now, we're seeing the same shit.

• NARA asks Trump to return the documents
• Trump refused for months
• Trump handed over a bunch of stuff in January
• NARA still notices documents missing, asks Trump to give the rest of them back
• Trump refused
• NARA referred the case to the DoJ
• Trump's lawyer signed an affidavit under penalty of perjury that they had given everything back
• People in Trump's orbit report that there are still documents he isn't giving back
• DoJ gets a search warrant
• FBI executes search warrant
• Trump said the FBI planted documents. This didn't go over well.
• Trump said he declassified the documents. This didn't go over well, either. Also, the espionage act doesn't differentiate between classified/declassified documents in the first place, so that isn't even what the DoJ is accusing him of. Trump's dumb ass basically admitted he had the shit and thus has backed himself into a corner even more. So this obviously didn't go over well.
• Trump makes statements attacking the FBI
• Violence against the FBI has already happened
• We even have a candidate for the state house in Florida who said that he would make it legal for Floridians to shoot federal agents on sight
• Lindsey Graham's dumb ass is now going on TV saying there will be riots in the streets if Trump is indicted.

It's the same shit all over again.
