But it didn't occur to me to think of these two things The intersection of deontology and teleology leads me to structural functionalism as a conclusion.... But idk. I don't know a lot about either because I don't think nature has a final causes at all and any obligations we have are the result of particular or hypothetical situations. I don't think you can oppose them though because teleology is a concept and not a doctrine. I guess you can assess the extent to which one might invalidate or justify the other. In terms of just opposing ends and duties... Idk... That's interesting to consider. I don't think there can be any duties without ends because if you just think of a duty that would apply to everyone then you have already created an end, namely that everyone acts a certain way.
