I guess employers can keep you verbally hostage and yell at you after stealing your money in this state. So that's cool.

Do you have any right to appeal?

I don't know anything about employment law but this sounds like the legal version of "whoever blinks first has a big stupid eggface forever"

I do, but what's the point, really? I already laid out that the employer was stealing from me, and we were in a heated argument when I was told if I walked out I quit. They belived that's what I was told and consider it a voluntary quit.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that exactly? The next step is a meeting with a judge or magistrate or something and we have to make our cases, and they decide again. I'm not sure I want to bother with my anxiety.

To me it sounds like it's unreasonable to say that "walking out means quitting", like they have determined for you what your own actions meant to you. Especially in the midst of a heated verbal exchange where it might have been perfectly reasonable to walk out. It would make a lot more sense if they said "walking out means you're fired", honestly. Did you consent to quitting?

We understand you are unhappy but we arent firing you. However, you are free to walk out that door and quit at any time. In the unemployment context it makes sense.

If they owe you money or were stealing from you that is a different issue and you should pursue that outside of an unemployment claim to get what you deserve back.

sounds like shitty wording that could lead to other shit. like, what if an employer says over the phone "if you don't get here in 2 seconds you quit?" how would that be in any way legally binding?

Not quite what happened, she was literally yelling at me. I just got up to walk out the door and she yelled "If you walk out that door you quit!" And I just kept going, and she chased me down and yelled "Give me back your badge!"

She then claimed I "Willingly gave it back"... well yeah, you demanded it of me.

Mind you, this is on top of them stealing money for benefits they told me I didn't have.

Yeah, I plan on talking to a employment lawyer to see if I have a case.

Right? She could legally hold me verbally hostage because of this.

I guess I can take solace in the fact Unemployment believed my version of the events. Because she claimed I said "You've lost an employee over this" and she supposedly asked me "Are you quitting!" and she claims I responded "What do you think?" Which is completely false.

No. There's 10 reasons listed in the determination that qualify you for unemployment. I've won unemployment for quitting for 2 reasons: A hostile work environment, twice, and for quitting to take care of my wife.

Which kind of gives me the idea of maybe making the argument it was a hostile work environment, but that is a stretch.
