Anytime it's discussed, its for how much money it made. That or the fact James Cameron is working on a bunch more of them.

Titanic while also mega successful, has a huge meme culture to this day on instagram.

Endgame, the movie that made the most money in one run, is also huge in pop culture.

Not shit talking Avatar or its fans. I just find it interesting that it made that much money and I never see it discussed (outside of box office), nor did it really effect pop culture.

The story was pretty generic and forgettable. There have been so many "Humans try to push out X species for gain" forms of entertainment that it tried to bank on the visual spectacle over substance.

Theres a reason why people bring up adamantium and not unobtainium lol.

Feels like people really remember it as a big deal but when the sequel comes out everyone is going to go "oh yeah it wasn't actually that exciting plotwise". He missed the boat unless this new movie wows special effects wise somehow and I feel we are all kind of jaded in that area by this point.

My prediction; after the first weekend where it makes gobs of money there's a huge dropoff as everyone reports " it was just kind of okay..nice special effects though."

Im not going to doubt the box office of avatar 2. It might not make anywhere as much as 1 but itll still be a top grosser of all time...unless its really bad for some reason

bitch, i can't name any of the characters in any of the movies i haven't watched in over 10 years

that's cause the plot basically felt like a modernized version of Pocahontas but with blue people. there's not much to say in that regard... lol

Im looking at the list of the highest grossing movies of all time. The top 25 I can name multiple characters aside from avatar

i have but its not generally warranted because the main plot is very boring and even the more interesting concepts in it are still pretty surface level.

The visuals is like 100% of what matters about the movie. And that's fine. Watching it in 3D on a premiere night was crazy. No other 3D movie even comes close. And it's been like a decade.

All I remember is that Michelle Rodriguez played Michelle Rodriguez in that movie

Not necessarily meme culture. I havent seen one topic here on anything about avatar aside from its box office. Nothing on the actual contents of the movie

Without some new 3D meme stuff, I cannot imagine that Avatar 2 is going to do that well relative to the original. Cameron definitely has his reputation and the success of the first one to sell tickets, but it was a social phenomenon more than a movie.
