He's not really. Jack is who the plot follows most of the time and he's also the one that kills David Lo Pan. There's nothing really typical "main hero" about Wang except for he gets the main love interest and Jack gets nothing.

Even Russell & Carpenter have said this-- the whole point is that he thinks he's the hero, but Wang actually does all the cool hero shit like ~~flying sword fights, martial arts, saving the damsel, etc. while Jack spends most of the climax of the movie unconscious because he's a dumbass.~~

Yeah. There was a ton of stuff that I missed. I never would have noticed the similarity in attire with Liu Kang's bandana.

Even the studio didn't catch that. That's why they insisted upon the intro where they're talking about what a brave hero Jack Burton is.
