As an early 30s millenial I've really sort of fallen off with things I followed in my late teens and early 20s.

I remember AVGN used to be huge and mega popular when YouTube was still just a couple years old and that he was going to try and make a movie and then I lost interest.

Also holy the redvsblue guys became a full blown studio

I would honestly tell people to avoid the movie as much as possible, especially if they enjoy AVGN. It's so bad, it's bad... you know the worst kind of bad. It sucks because you could tell there was a lot of love put into the project, but it was very painful watching it from beginning to end.

Yeah, the movie is absolute trash. Easily the worst movie I've ever seen, which is a huge shame since I love AVGN.

It's not the worst movie ever, but I think the only AVGN fans that would enjoy the movie are the ones that like him for his skits. Otherwise just have the health conscience knowing James was able to do something he was passionate about.

agvn made his debut two years after you made your account, assuming this is the only account youve ever had on this site, why would you assume someone as viable as him would all of a sudden not be around because you chose not to continue watching him?

So many of those early YouTubers crashed and burned, but AVGN still seems to be doing pretty well

Nostalgia Critic still around as well. and i guess he's doing alright despite some horrible videos (*cough* The Wall review *cough)...

No shock, his reviews of crap games (of which there is no shortage) are very funny and people tend to like watching awful things get trashed. I don't watch much else on his channel, not often anyway, but he is very knowledgeable about classic movies too.

Nearly 3.7 million subscribers on youtube, already reached 150k views on his most recent video from a week ago and the aforementioned reviews still top 1 million within a month or two (the wii game someone else mentioned). Most people would love even 1/10th of that! So yah, seems he is still doing fine.

Yeah avgn is trash but that's a bunch of gamersgate incel types.

Rolfe did two videos in 2004, and was something he never intended to release.
His friend Mike Matai convinced him to make them public, which he did on the Cinemassacre Gold Collection VHS tape in 2004.
They were first uploaded on Youtube in 2006, soon followed by the third episode, about Karate Kid, and was the first where he called himself the Angry Nintendo Nerd.

Never seen the movie but I like watching the videos of his that interest me.

Oh and before anyone asks no I haven't seen the one he did on Tomb Raider Chronicles and Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness as there is no need as I agree with everything he would be saying about those games as they are absolute trash.

I always get the AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic confused as they both "peaked" around the same time but I didn't really pay enough attention to either to really know who's who (I mean, I know their faces from back then but which name goes with which....I dunno).

Anyway, whoever did the Super Mario Bros 3 review was a legend.

I've seen every episode and still think it's okay, but even I haven't watched the movie. I like the actual game-playing parts, and the clips I've seen of the movie looks pretty bad

I think they were released on GameTrailers first and like 2 weeks later on Youtube.

I mean, it's common knowledge. It's like they're trying to bring to light "James doesn't write his own stuff/play the games!", when it's openly been like that the majority of the time the series has existed.

It's the fact that the sub is trying to make Screenwave or James' wife villains, or shitting on him for having a family. I've seen theories on the sub going as far as suggesting James' wife has him in a conservatorship against his will. That subreddit is bonkers

lol, okay I'll give you that one. I always viewed those kinds of posts as memes, but I guess they do look unhinged to people who think they're serious.

Yeah the Screenwave guys suck but people there act they are tyrants who own the rights to the character and are holding James hostage.

I remember when Doug reviewed the AVGN movie, it was painfully obvious he was darting around what he actually thought about it and just rambled on and on about how cool it was to be making your own movie.

The newer episodes are not too bad for the most part. But the golden age has long been over. That happens with anything though. Nothing lasts forever. At least the old episodes are still enjoyable to rewatch.

It's a shame the movie was apparently bad, but hey that's life sometimes. You try something, and you failed. But at least you tried.

All 'drama' subs that aren't about an actual Drama are usually terrible by design. Those people are looking for negativity in everything, and positivity is discouraged.

It's just a ton of shit posting. It used to be a bunch of drama how people got banned for talking about Bootsy and Mike's dick pic stunt. They just complain about James output about how it's not as good as it used to be and that he doesn't upload that much AVGN either.

I dont care for Dougs sketches. Id rather his show be just him sat in front of a camera talking and showing clips of the movie hes reviewing. I dont want him prancing around in costumes with Malcolm and Tamera.

I wasn't even talking about his skits. He made a few infamously bad movies (Kickassia, Suburban Knights, To Boldly Flee).

yea i never watched the movie because i used to run one of the big NES sites in 2003-2004 and wrote a story about how me and the other administrator drove to the desert and dug up the ET atari carts...

the site is down, and had been for years. i always felt like somehow, someone that read that story back then talked about it with the Nerd and the concept inspired the movie plot.
