Sega bought Atlus, and I think that gave them a bigger budget to make games and distribute games.

Falcom, behind the legend of heroes trails in the sky series and more importantly Ys, have a ton of potential. But after trying Ys 9, a game that was supposed to be developed for ps4 and yet looks worse than Ys 8 (a vita game) I'm wondering if they need the help of a larger publisher since they have the core gameplay of Ys down, just need to expand on the world and story, maybe less cliche characters and an improved art style like Persona's cel-shaded look, because the current ps2 anime look they have is... terrible

I liked the character designs for ys 7 but I didn't like them that much for Ys 8 and then Ys 9 is just terrible

Falcom is going to back to the MSX/SMS/NES gimmick of porting everything everywhere.
That's not a bad thing.

I don't know, is Falcom in a rough spot finacially or from a business perspective?

Otherwise, I don't really see the point? Ys 8 and 9 are some of the best games in the franchise yet I'd say.

I don't think so, but "make it prettier!" demands will eventually end up causing that.

No thank you. I think their games are great the way they are at the moment. Being bought would fuck all of that up

We still haven't gotten a Ys 5 update/localization, so that's something.

And while there was a Ys 6 in North America, it was before the rebirth of Ys with 1,2,3,4,7 etc so I never played it and the videos weren't encouraging at all, so it could do with an update. Especially since a character from it apparently is in Ys 7 which really bothered me that I missed out on the connection since I love the series so much.

...or never got around to revisiting it after making Ys4 four times.

Agreed. I don't like Sahad even though he's the strongest character. Hummel's design just makes me laugh. Ricotta's makes me frown. But overall Ys 8 is good.

But Ys 9... it looks like they gave Adol a rattail what's with that. And that costume that's like a 17th century France costume. I'd normally like that era design but it just doesn't fit Adol and Ys.
