The daughter of an ultranationalist Russian ideologue believed to have had a strong influence on Vladimir Putin has been killed in a car bomb on the outskirts of Moscow, according to multiple media reports.

Darya Dugin, daughter of Russian political commentator Alexander Dugin dubbed Putins brain died when the Toyota Land Cruiser she was driving was ripped apart by a powerful explosion about 20km west of the capital at around 9.30pm local time.

The blast occurred near the village of Bolshiye Vyazemy, according to Russian media sites Baza and 112, and state-owned Novaya Gazeta.

Witnesses said debris was thrown all over the road as the car was engulfed in flames before crashing into a fence, according to reports.
Emergency services said there had been one person in the car and that they died at the scene.

Andrey Krasnov, a friend of Dugina and the head of the Russian Horizon social movement, confirmed the reports, according to the news agency Tass.

He said that the bomb could have been intended for her father.

This was the fathers vehicle. Darya was driving another car but she took his car today, while Alexander went in a different way. He returned, he was at the site of the tragedy. As far as I understand, Alexander or probably they together were the target, Krasnov said.

The media outlet 112 also claimed that Dugin and his daughter had been at an event outside Moscow and had been due to travel back together until he decided to go separately at the last minute.

Footage circulating on social media appeared to show him at the scene in a state of distress.
The head of the self-proclaimed, pro-Kremlin Donetsk Peoples Republic, Denis Pushilin , wrote on his Telegram channel that Daria Dugin had been killed and blamed the Ukrainian government.

Dugin is known for developing an extreme rightwing view of Russias place in the world. He has been described as a Russian fascist who has helped shape Vladimir Putins expansionist foreign policy.

"Putin's Brain"? Does not bode well for Putin then. Word is she and her father had hundreds of enemies, it's likely the true culprit may never be found and they will grab whomever is at the top of list and blame them.

Read the story again. The brain was supposed to travel with his daughter but they swapped cars last minute. They were obviously after Dugin, not his nobody daughter.

Also worth noting that political analysts dont even agree on how much influence this guy actually has. Some say the fact that Putin became so right wing is this guy, others say that hes just a mouthpiece that nobody takes seriously. So who knows?

FYI supposedly a russian resistance group claimed credit for the attack (and may be responsible for some of the other "accidents" that have been happening lately), but obviously Russia media is trying to squash that story.

According to Ponomarev, the anti-Putin group, which had been unknown before Dugina's death, authorized him to issue their "manifesto" via his Telegram channel "Rospartisan." The group describes itself as consisting of Russian activists, military members, politicians who are "now fighters and partisans."

In their purported statement, the NRA said its members oppose the war launched by Russia against neighboring Ukraine.

The NRA declared Putin "a usurper of power and a war criminal who amended the Constitution, unleashed a fratricidal war between the Slavic peoples and sent Russian soldiers to certain and senseless death." It also called officials of the Russian government and regional administrations as well as security officials "accomplices of the usurper."

I wonder if he was tipped off to not get in the same car

So they think terrorism and killing politicians in car bombs is how you get a country to pull out of a war. That is a bold strategy. Seems like something that wouldnt be considered a good idea in any other country.

She wasn't a civilian, she had been posting plenty of stuff on social media basically calling the people of Ukraine subhuman and explaining why Russia needed to destroy them. Even if she wasn't a part of the government, she was still every bit on board with what they had been doing.

Yep. The US was in a war in Afghanistan/Iraq a couple years ago. I just cant imagine it being seen as favorable if a group blew up Senators or Congressmen in car bombs to have tried to get us to withdraw from the war. It is Russia and im uneducated with that country maybe people have different rules for when it happens over there. And how they view such acts.

Not just that but if you get arrested there, there's nothing stopping the state from deciding your family must be involved as well and imprisoning them as well.

Russia has a long, storied history of violently overthrowing their own government. These aren't people angry at their senators and hoping to get them to pull out of a war. These are people who recognize that Putin has already effectively overthrown their government, rewritten their constitution, placed his cronies in seats of power, murders anyone who disagrees with him, and will be in power until the day he dies as he drags the entire country into third world pariah status.

EDIT: put a different way, this is exactly how I'd expect people to act if Trump actually cancelled the election, declared himself winner, but then went further and re-wrote the constitution to eliminate term limits, replaced everyone in the FBI with lackies, and started assassinating everyone at CNN who badmouthed him.

Criticizing the Kremlin or military's actions is now considered a crime against the state and officially lands you at least 5 years in prison, along with basically being blacklisted from all employers and basically everyone you know suddenly being told you're a traitor to Russia.

This isn't a country where speaking out and protesting accomplishes anything.

There has to be a better way to get their point across imo. Cant they just vote for the opposition party that opposes the war into power.
