I don't have a favorite genre per se.
I can think of some good examples of some genres I vastly prefer over others, though.

Surf rock is great, but I don't mean the kind that sounds like The Ventures. They're pretty okay for what they are, but their songs often are absent of the characteristic reverb I expect from surf rock. This track from a very obscure band in particular is perfect for being set on a loop.

No one seems to truly understand what AOR really means, but I've nonetheless seen it get dunked on for not being "real" rock. My personal definition is that it's rock that's too hard to be pop rock, but too sweet to be hard rock. The perfect example I can think of is Journey.

Disco gets a bad rep as well, I guess because everyone thinks it's all Bee Gees and Gloria Gaynor that have been overplayed to death since forever.
But when I think of Disco, this is what comes to my mind.

Then there's disco's European offshoot: Italo Disco. It takes that 1980s synth sound we all love (or hate) to the dance floor.

Everyone knows what synthpop is, and I must confess I don't have a go-to example; there are simply too many. Here's one by a band I've listened a lot to recently.

This one is tough. Is it speed metal, or power metal? It has the speed and the power; can it be both? If so, then it's a fantastic example of both genres.
