So many missions have bs prerequisites that basically force you to play that trash army commander side bullshit and do side content.... i dont wanna be forced to do side quests. I just wanna rush through the mainquests and move on to the next game. Christ

I like rushing through games or focusing on the main quest because im more of a linear based/ ranked combat kind of guy. Like dmc , mgr.. and story based games. If i like the story in an open world game i like to breeze through the main quest because i wanna know what happens next

I get bored easily. If you impede my progress in a game by making me collect shit or grind. I wont hesistate in dropping it tbh. I like games with a nice flow in progression

Probably best to quit now if you aren't enjoying it. If you don't like the stuff they're having you do now, you're going to hate what they force you do before getting to the ending. And it's not something that goes by fast either.

Both of those Middle Earth games are so mind-numbingly boring I'm baffled some people actually enjoy them

I tried the SoW after people kept saying how amazing it was.

I got maybe 2 hours into it before uninstalling.

Yeah, there was a big grindfest to get to the true ending that was basically just capturing and defending the castles/forts over and over again until a certain point. Though they've apparently updated the game a few years back to drastically reduce the grind, so maybe it's not so bad now.

Just did a full run of the game recently. You only have to defend them each once now I think it was. Chances are if you captured them early your units are bad and you'll lose and have to recapture it though

The best part of those games is engaging with the Nemesis system and manipulating the orcs so if you're not into that I'd drop it.

The endgame grind isn't as bad as it was at launch though, now it's barely a grind.

I was done with that game "series" after I finished the first one. Then they announced "Shadow of War" I said no way I'm playing a longer, more tedious version of the first game.

The combat gets really samey and it's about as challenging as how often you decide to actually stick around and fight Orc hordes in strongholds and how often you don't use nearly game breaking mechanics.

Plus the Nemesis system really isn't all that interesting or engaging. It's just different.

That got patched out, and the number of sieges you need to do late in the game also got massively reduced IIRC (I didn't play it until after the patch so can't say for sure)

It's lame, but not for the reason you mentioned which I'm not sure I understand since that's not the problem I encountered with the game.

There's a good game here with some good voice acting and even story if they actually sat down and fleshed it out and improved it instead of not doing any of that.

It's longer than shadow of mordor but there isn't a lot of substance in the game

Also I enjoy the game for being a ripoff of arkham and assassin's creed, but I've never really understood the praise the nemesis system gets. It's never been more than a mild "huh. Neat" reaction and yet people treat it like this brilliant mechanic and feature and it's really not.

and the nemesis system is awesome
I literally had to go out of my way to not instantly annihilate any new Nemesis in Shadow of Mordor. Barely a handful of them in my game got to level up because I only ever occasionally died. They were always so weak and easy to cut down immediately. The original Nemesis I had also permanently died the second time I killed him, which I don't think was supposed to happen. By the time I stopped tearing through them like tissue paper, I got mind control, so then I was like curating Nemesis to make them my mind slaves.

I mean yeah to be fair I play on easiest mode because the combat is not interesting enough to actually play on any higher difficulty so I always kill orcs and don't really use the nemesis system since I have no incentive to want my character to die, which runs counter to every other game in existence.

Ironically I like Shadow of Mordor's combat more than shadow of war. Shadow of Mordor was a more direct arkham ripoff and the combat was easier, more streamlined and straightforward so you could dispatch of orcs quicker. Meanwhile in shadow of war they nerfed you considerably even though there are a ton of more abilities to learn, they're all useless and don't help to quickly and efficiently dispatch enemies. Even though shadow of war improved in some ways, the combat and equipment system was waaay worse. Typical big budget hollywood studio game...
