Managers are convinced that WFH'ers are slacking off, despite absurdly increased morale and productivity. Or rather, they are fearing for their own jobs, as they're largely irrelevant now and need to gin up justifications for their existence.

Can the boss be sued for making her go to work and giving her the virus?

what does it matter that the person got it from their boss? (This is conjecture only, btw). This has major /antiwork vibes, just trying to pile on the boss for the sake of piling on the boss.

1st is subjective, 2nd is not. sadly, WFH and anti-WFH people will each choose to ignore select data, to frame their argument as the superior one. And any academic studies will likely be to large of scope to apply to really anything useful.

Nobody can make you go to work. You are free to quit, stay home, and die from starvation. That's how they get away with it. No part of the American legal apparatus exists to protect workers; a case like this would be summarily dismissed by some low level backwater judge and that'd be the end of it.

Sue the company, sue the bosses.

We need new Federal regulations to protect WFH employees and to let them keep WFH.

If the bosses don't like it, they can go find another company with employees that want to risk their health willingly, voluntarily, and without threats of being fired.

The vaccine has been out for at least a year now. No one that I know of who has gotten the vaccine got so severely sick that they died. She would have been alive if she had the vaccine. This is on her.

So yes, it's heartless to say but this is reality.

If she didn't want to take the vaccine, that's her choice, she has the right to avoid it and to WFH.

That doesn't include feeling sad if someone who refused a vaccine dies because of that stupidity, especially if it leaves a spouse and children behind.

Of course vaccination status isn't confirmed either way so this really isn't a productive point either way.

All we know is that their boss pressured a worked to come back to office, and said worked died due to catching Covid from said boss(Who likely never took it seriously).

at the end of the day, you take your victims as you find them. at the bosses instruction, the worker died. the boss must be punished for negligence leading in the death of his employee. end of story

covid19 doesn't care about your bodily autonomy. And her boss doesn't either. What is she going to do about it?

Nobody actually cares. It is either you show up for work or you don't. I learned that the hard way when I worked through the pandemic, both of them, having to intubate and treat these patients.

Im dealing right now with an employee that doesnt want to come back to the office. Hoping that he/she doesnt come back when required and we can terminate for cause. The job requires that he/she be in the office. If he/she cant meet that requirement there is no reason to employee him/her as there is no value to the business. You dont have a right to work in this company - play by the rules or get another job.

And there is so much not explained in the seemingly random tweet in the OP.

I can (but dont full time). The person I was talking about probably technically could but they are much more efficient in the office and the decision was made that they have to come back.

To your question, there are clearly some office jobs that cant be done from home easily for example, if people handle sensitive or confidential information its much cheaper and easier to support and manage them when they are in a secured environment. But the larger issue is that businesses are free to establish their work culture and principles as they see fit. Whether its working from home or more common decisions like acceptable work attire they are free to make those decisions. Employees are equally free to work under those conditions or not.

Im in no way against working from home but its not the great next thing the way people pretend it is. It brings a lot of challenges from management and support that companies have to deal with and factor into whether or not it is worth doing.

A lot of the crowd around here doesn't believe management should exist lol. We'll all just get our 40 in with zero accountability.
