Charlton Heston or whatever is shouting "Soylent Green is people!!!!" , but if you follow the context clues throughout the movie it's like he's a deluded idealist finally getting a dose of reality cuz it sure seems like pretty much everyone else already knows and doesn't care.

Imagine someone going out kicking and screamingn THE SKY IS BLUEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh sure, I can see people rationalize eating people. Just look in our past. Look at the animal kingdom. They eat their kids to all the time. And for other reasons. We're quite the little monsters. And a lot of people who ride the bandwagon of the moral contrary will be right there on the opposite wagon of that dark future as you look in horror in your meat cage prison. "But, I thought you believed in..."

Your eyes will meet for the briefest of moments and as you spot that duper's delight and deceitful grin, they'll have uncaringly moved on to the next thing as you're rolled on into your fate.

The choice is to die fighting it, Lok. Go out screaming, biting, and clawing like Heston did. Sometimes it's better to die fighting than live in hell. Fuck surviving. I wanna go out fighting.

The real spoiler for Soylent Green is that the twist isn't even in the original novel. They added it for the film version.

In the book, the theme is basically just "Everything is fucked, and will continue to get worse forever." They don't even get the solution to overpopulation/depletion of resources the people in the film get.

Watching old Heston movies is fun. I like how he portrays the confident man of his time. It's almost like a caricature when you view it today. But he did all emotions well. I remember wanting to be like him as a kid. My Dad always admired him for some reason. Then I found spaghetti westerns and wanted to be Clint Eastwood.
