Why the fuck would they introduce this so early, i cant stop. First time playing, any tips?

Tip: Don't start playing FF14. I spent a LOT of time trying to track down the Triple Triad cards in it.

It's definitely addicting. Best part of FF8.

Go to the Fire Cavern and get a couple of Bomb cards. Early on they are extremely powerful and can make getting the character cards early on much more doable. With them + Ifrit you pretty much have a guaranteed lane to getting the Zell, Quistis, and Minimog card even if you don't really go for anything special for the last spot.

Wait, does it have a quest series akin to the Card Troupe? Because while the rest of the game is completely unappealing to me that could be pretty big game. For some unknown reason a Troupe-styled quest has never shown up in any game ever again that I can find, and that was a major part of why I don't think that Triple Triad has ever been topped.

It's your best ticket to get through the game smoothly. Otherwise you're left worried about the junction system and losing spell potency and wasting time drawing spells. Instead just invest everything in the card game and you'll be fine.

The card troupe are all NPCs in the Gold Saucer who teach you how to play. Only King is somewhat hard if you don't have any good cards and they have the Bahamut card which is not that good compared to later cards.

There's no actual quest line for it. You just go around collecting cards from NPCs, trials, dungeons and raids and you can enter tournaments to play other people.

It's a lot better than manually drawing the whole way through.

Fuckin hate TT. It wouldnt be so bad if there werent stupid rules that change. I was playing recently and I could not get the rules to change the way I wanted them to and I ended up giving up. Of course this was after I had already made Squall OP

And, frankly, I'm not really interested in the games based on difficulty. More the journey. I play an inordinate amount of card games to the point where I can all but guarantee that the average player would have long since quit in disgust before I begin to find anything hard. Something like Shandalar and the like is what I'm looking for. If it's nothing more than what we got in Bravely Default 2 then I'm less interested in playing a whole MMO just for something that is an updated version of what happened in FFVIII purely from the cards themselves.

Sphere Shot is pretty good too. It can get your shot stat high enough to where it doesn't matter what the block stats are. When the NPCs start learning it it becomes interesting.

That only applies to the first Luca game. Once you get past that and can drop all of the utterly irredeemable players on your initial team having Jecht Shot is pure opulence. You can definitely make claims about it being too easy, but not having Jecht Shot really doesn't make it hard at all.

It's literally been a thing for years already. Turns out it's not really that fun as a standalone thing.

To be fair it *was* fun. The card collection part was just stupidly miserable and the lack of any restrictions meant that everyone just slotted the exact same comp unless they were trying to "seed" rarer cards.
