Knowing his actor did that in real life. They mentioned it on the podcast awhile back that the scene was based on him actually doing it. If you enjoy always sunny the podcast is worth a listen. The structure of it is they rewatch the episodes and talk about them but it just devolves into them just talking about random shit. It's great.

I was just thinking about this yesterday because with car technology now I think I could manage it, but very unlikely with whatever he was driving at the time.
