For me it's

Resident Evil REmake
Silent Hill 2
P.T
Slender
Chicken Run

I played Remake at my uncle's house back in 2003 or something and it was my first exposure to an actual horror game and it scarred me as an 8 year old.

Slender was terrifying and I played it way before the whole indie horror game wave and slender man hadn't been overdone to death back then.

P.T is the only game I've played as an adult that gave me that "I kind of want to stop playing" vibe. Work of genius.

Silent Hill 2 is Silent Hill 2. I don't find it the scariest thing ever but I constantly think about it and every time I play it, it gets under me like no other horror fiction.

Chicken Run on ps1 was fucked. That dog game over scene.. what were they thinking for a children's ps1 game?

Subnautica by quite a large margin.

Amnesia's probably second.

RE3 (original).
I have beaten it but I can not go back and play it. It's not that it's scary, it's the pressure of Nemmy not leaving me alone!

Still a great game though.

RE1. The dog jumping through the window scared the hell out of me as a kid and I didn't end up picking up the series again until later (around when RE4 came out).

Subnautica would be the 2nd most frightening experience for me because of my fear of the deep ocean. Took me a while to finally bring myself to enter Reaper territory and the Grand Reef/Blood Kelp regions of the game.

I admit I was a big chicken when I was 15 years old and RE2 first released in 1998. Every other thing in that game was making me nervous, lol. *Licker through the window being the biggest scare* Silent hill also was pretty spooky. Those demon babies man.

Actually when I was a kid there was this one NES game called abadox that really creeped me out. The entire game takes place with you going into a living planet to save this random princess so every other thing you fought was some ol crazy demon parasite shit.

(The box art was a lie goddamn).

I was 9 years old when I first played this so it was pretty intense stuff, lol

I think that one weirdly looks better in the original rather than the REmake. Something about the graininess adds to it.

agreed.

I remember going to my room and telling my younger brother that I can't do it, and him calling me a punk... then he came up not long after saying how scary it was, lol.

Personally wasn't that scared, but seeing other people get nervous at parts of Dark Souls 3 was fascinating to me. I'd seen people get afraid of other From games before, but this one seemed to be particularly disturbing in leaving a lasting taste in your mouth. My enjoyment was greatly enhanced by the notion of it truly being a terrifying game through and through, which from a certain perspective it absolutely is. I think Dark Souls 2 is worse tho. But it certainly isn't "horrifying throughout".

Only game that i actually consider to be scary today is Visage.

That game is a horror masterpiece. Not just BOO! jumpscares (there are plenty of those), but the atmosphere and the real adult fears that the game holds.

The first Silent Hill. Yeah, even at the time the presentation was janky, but nothing has topped it for atmosphere since. And that fucking school locker room.

Closest anything has come since then is probably the unpredictable tension in Alien Isolation.
