I can't quite out my finger on why I disliked 2, but I think it was the combination of weeb shit and annoying borning busy work, and thr sluggish feeling combat.

Mostly I think I hated collecting 3 million different nonsense items just to roll for yet another shitty Jojo stand.

Absolutely. 3 is closer in tone to 1.

Maybe? I found 3 to be closer to 2 than to 1 despite all. But that may be because 1 had a very basic frame, being the first game. You can only go up or sideways but never down so that may be why some feel it's more a successor to 1. However I still got 2 vibes a lot more but if they shaved off some of the excess that people didn't like. That includes the "weeb", it's still pretty weeb cause it's Xenoblade.

They took stuff from both games anyway.

Yeah. The battles are way better paced and don't rely on you having to set up 100000 things to get the big attack in, the collectpedia got streamlined into building affinity for the colonies, the story is WAAY less hammy and has a more mature setting like 1. The MAPS are so much better to explore. The Field Skills in this one are permanent upgrades and you don't need to manage a bunch of blades and remember which ones to activate them. I actually like how they utilized them a bunch, it gives you this whole Metroidvania vibe to the zones. Battles are snappy, too. I play on hard mode and most battles are about 40 secs-1:20 secs unless you fight a big enemy which of course you're inviting the bigger challenge there.

Pretty much every complaint you had in the TC is not there. What replaces blades is a Hero system where you can swap out Heroes you get from sidequests, exploration or story and you can even learn their classes and mix and match the arts to your liking. What's also good is the base class for each character is already pretty great and can carry you through the game in case you don't care to experiment. In this one you have 6 (Plus a hero) on the battlefield at once and you can even swap between them mid-battle in case you're in a situation where you need a desperate heal and you don't want to have to rely on the AI (Which hasn't really been a problem for me personally) which gives you so much more control than you ever had in a Xenoblade game.

And best of all: No FUCKING Mercenary Missions. NO GACHA. You can just play the damn game. So yes, I'd say if you liked 1, you will like 3, I'm confident in saying that.

Three is definitely the best experience out of all of them, by sheer virtue of no gacha system. The weebness is toned down significantly as well.

I'm playing Xenoblade 1 and loving it. Will I like 2? The gacha stuff doesn't scare me from the sounds of it. I'm doing like, every quest in 1, and enjoying it, if that's any indication of how I get on with grindy stuff.

I did like it, but it's much more lighter in tone (even if it does have its serious moments), is much more "anime", and the areas are a fair bit more compact since each of the Titans you visit are smaller than either Bionis and Mechonis in Xenoblade 1. The enemies are also HP sponges since the game expects you to make use of Blade Combos and Driver Combos.

Chances are, yeah, if you don't mind grindy mechanics. The battle system can seem to be very jarring at first (It's a lot more complicated than 1) but there are now pretty solid guides on how to actually use the mechanics properly. Wish I had this when I played at launch! I recommend giving this a watch because it'll explain things to help what at first appears to be sluggish combat and shows how fun it can actually be. It's still a massive world with a heavy narrative it just made some controversial mechanic changes plus the whole Blade (The Gacha) system. The tutorials are pretty bad so that's why I just outright give out videos now lol. The DLC is also pretty awesome and a nice stand alone RPG. Not HUGE but there's a lot of stuff to do and it also has a fantastic narrative.

Thanks! Complicated combat is a bit scary, because even in Xenoblade 1 there's a lot I don't understand, although I'm not really having any trouble with it. If (more likely when) I get 2, I'll be sure to read up on the combat, and I'll give that video a watch.

Are you playing Xenoblade DE on Switch? The little tutorial skits in the menu can be very helpful and they made the explanations in character so they're like Tales of Skits. That should give you most if not all the information you need and they're pretty short and sweet. And yeah, I strongly recommend reading up a bit so the gameplay experience is a lot smoother.

It does feel like they took out all the annoying parts from 2 when making 3. The exploration feels like 1 to me but I haven't played 2 in a while.

What does this part mean? 2 was the first one I've played, but I dropped it a few hours in so I could beat some quicker games first. Years ended up passing by and I haven't picked it back up yet, but that's because now I'm playing 1 and just made it to chapter 13 a couple days ago. I feel like exploring in 1 is a HUGE drag since the maps are so large and it takes forever to traverse them. I can't remember if 2 is like that or not.

The maps in 3 are pretty huge too, but I love it. And you don't have to fully map them if you just wanna go place to place I don't think it's too bad. Like someone else said you don't have to be constantly switching blades to explore, and you can wander into high level areas if you want to.

The main issue I have with the map though is that the areas are not labeled, as they are on the maps of the previous games. Makes searching for certain areas to return to for quests a pain. I'm hoping that that's patched in an update.

Yeah, and I can't remember if you could do this in Xenoblade 2, but the Gravemarkers for defeated Unique Monsters also count as Landmarks, so you can make even more of them to make getting around even easier.

But you have to play as the local flute players' guild. Can you at least unlock the characters from the first game as some non-canon bonus?
