This is the future. I think eventually people will value portability and convenience over max performance. Its way more important to me at least. Then factor in the emulation.

Then sell the Switch to fund the Deck purchase. It can run most Switch games anyway from what Ive seen.

Yeah thats what I mean by support. Epic and Microsoft not wanting to play ball. Destiny 2 cant play because they wont budge on the anti cheat shit.

I care about max performance exactly as much as I do about portability: not even a little bit.

I only play games in my home theatre room and my X1S with Game Pass is all I need. I'll never want portability or emulation, just a good tv and surround sound.

I like a portability but nope. You can't compare a 7 inch screen with lite-hardware specs to a proper rig on a 32 inch or more monitor.

the former i can understand but the latter is literally like saying you don't want access to more games on a single platform.

I honestly havent looked into it at all, can you play it on the TV? Because thats a huge deal breaker for me. One of the main reasons I havent gotten into PC gaming is because Ill take sitting back in my nice comfy chair playing games on my nice TV over my not-so-comfy computer chair hunched over a keyboard.

You know you could just use your TV as a monitor and basically every game has controller support

If nothing else, it's an amazing first attempt, considering all that it technically has against it in regards to PC gaming and compatibility. If it becomes thinner, with a better screen, and a less buggy UI, I think it could go mainstream.

The thing I can't get over is just how well most of the games run. I don't know if that says more about the state of GPU tech or the deck itself.

Not when my computer is in a different room than the TV (and unfortunately with the way my apartment is, I cant really get them in the same room)

the tech is cool and all but i have no use for video games outside of the house. and in the house, tv over handhelds all day.

It won't because PC developers don't like being spec-locked, at all.

I would be surprised if you cant hook up a Raspberry Pi to your TV and stream what you are doing on your PC to your TV.

Between my wall of older physical games that I've never played plus Game Pass plus digital stores, I already have access to more games than I'll ever realistically play. I haven't wanted to emulate anything in over a decade and I don't see that changing.

nothing will kill consoles, its a cheap and powerful way to play games. Handhelds will never match the quality of a gaming console and gaming PCs are way too expensive. Consoles will always exist

You actually can. If it runs it then I dont get why playing on a 32 inch monitor is so special. Ive got a 65 inch in my living room and its my least favorite thing to game on.

Theyre not cheap though. The entry Steam Deck is less than a Series X and disc PS5. The best thing about Xbox is Game Pass and you can access that. The best thing about PS5 is exclusives and you can play those. Death Loop, Spider-Man, Horizon, FF7 remake, etc are all on Deck. I think its evident Sony and Microsoft see a shift or they wouldnt be willingly giving these things to PC.

Keep in mind to enjoy that quality you will also constantly need the latest and greatest display which isnt cheap. Otherwise it can easily match that quality.

Handheld has always been its own market, and home had theirs. We've known for a while that the markets don't have hurtful overlaps. Handhelds in general has been massively hurt by phones giving casual easier access to games. The quality don't matter too much for casuals it seems

Gaming on Linux still has a loooong way to go.

You may have one of the units with the bad fans because Ive played Apex which is pretty demanding and mine isnt loud at all. Its not dead silent but it never gets to the point its loud. Consoles for sure get louder.

There are some inconsistencies with the hardware but mine is fine so Im not gonna speak on that.

Battery does indeed suck. Theres no way around it though. You can only fit a battery so big in this form. That leads me to the size. Yes its big but also there is a lot of power behind it so I get it.

The game library is exactly what makes on the go play amazing. I spent an hour at work today playing Vampire Survivors. I never would have played that on console. So many cheap and low demanding games available at any time.

Handhelds had their own market in the past because they straight up couldnt run the same games. Now we have handhelds that are running the exact same game not some trash.

It's not gonna kill consoles because it's still a PC at the end of the day. A significant portion of people are hard filtered by that fact, especially zoomers who are less computer savvy than millennials

It's dope though and I rarely use my desktop since I got mine. Might put Windows on it eventually though, as linux is kind of a pain in the butt (even though its file explorer is surprisingly nice after adjusting to it). I'm more motivated to play games when I'm on it than when I'm on my desktop for some reason, maybe I just like the handheld form factor better or something
