Basically, anything from before the year 2000 (or to put it another way, games from before they were born)

I think speedrunning and other means of playing retro games are helping with keeping retro interests alive. They're not the sole cause, obviously, but easy access to large retro catalogs does a lot for allowing interest to take root.

They like Roblux which is shitty 3D block graphics.

At least from my experience with my kids (9 and 7) and with their cousins....

N64/PS1 era games especially don't interest them, as they think the graphics look way too blocky (you whippersnappers played Minecraft for three hours on Sunday!) and they aren't a fan of how clunky the controls are or how limited the areas of movement are for the most part.

Going back, they appreciate the more refined controls of the less experimental earlier generation of games, but the SNES era is a bit muddled for their tastes. If anything, something about NES graphics pops more for them that gets their interest far more reliably.

But even then they maybr have a day's interest for that stuff and then move on back to newer games.

I'm sure plenty do take interest in old games, depending on what they're shown. My 7 year old son has been somewhat interested when I've played through old PS1 games.

I feel like the success of Mario Maker shows there's at least SOME interest in retro games.

Oddly, my 13 year old enjoys 8-Bit NES games over the pixelated PS1 games.

Like, I can get him to play Tecmo Super Bowl way before I can get him to play and PS1 version of Madden.

I think they do. NES games are a lot simpler to control, which helps them out. Honestly, SMB will be a good game forever for people to play since it's not too complex.

My 4 year old son likes SMB. He can make it to 4-2.

My 10 year old daughter mostly plays Roblox but her favorite game is probably Undertale. When she was younger she played my NES all the time, mostly Kirby's Adventure.
