Even though a couple cards are out in China, apparently both this generation and the next (Battlemage) have fundamental design flaws that can't be fixed, meaning it will be at least 2 years before they can manufacture a card that is competitive. Also, anything below DirectX 12 has performance approximately half of what the GPU's typical compute performance should allow.

One of the board partners has ceased dealing with Intel:

What I find really amazing is that Intel could have absolutely made a killing during the GPU shortage because they are the only GPU manufacturer who actually owns their own chip manufacturing process.

I hope it gets cancelled and their stock tanks below 30 a share so I can get in on it

Yup, it's been going on in the news for the past few days already.

The decision is still on going between the higher ups.

Pat Gelsinger wants to keep it, but it might not all be up to him.

Intel recently lost ALOT of $$$ for the first time in years while AMD made ALOT and cut a chunk out of Intel's Profits.

Intel is such a poorly managed company, which is a damn shame because they have SO MUCH going for them (having their own vertically-integrated manufacturing system is a dream).

Thinking back to the late 2000's, Intel was absolutely STOMPING AMD with the Core 2 series. I can't believe how far they've fallen.

If they keep on losing $$$, they might have to sell off their manufacturing and do a split where Intel becomes a Open Foundry player for everybody while the design becomes it's own seperate company.

That will be a great day IMO.

Intel eating humble pie.

AMD was wrecking Intel for a while back in the Early 2000's with Athlon 64.

But Intel cheated to stay profitable and to screw over AMD of any potential profits.

AMD literally COULDN'T give away CPU's to Dell to sell, that's how much power Intel had over large OEM's to keep AMD out as an option.

Karma is a bitch and comes in many forms.

The sad thing is that AMD looks better than they probably deserve, by virtue of being compared to Intel. Ryzen is a better CPU platform for sure, but just look at how behind they are compared to ARM architectures like Apple's M1 and M2 - which get vastly better performance and a small fraction of the power draw.

The problem with AMD is that they seem to treat NVIDIA the same way they treat Intel, but NVIDIA is just way ahead of AMD in image reconstruction modalities and it's really making AMD look bad on the GPU side of things.

We aren't really at the point yet where ARM can replace x86_64 for a significant portion of the potential userbase, though.

Note that the keyword there is "yet".

That's because:
1) Apple owns the entire vertical stack on Hardware & Software integration. You can optimize the hell out of everything if you own every aspect of the tech stack.
2) Apple went different and chose to have MASSIVE L1$ & L2$ over L3$ while making all their CPU registers wider instead of faster.
3) Apple targeted Power Efficiency over Performance.
4) Intel has been asleep at the helm for over a decade, they're starting to play catch up
5) AMD has been playing catch up on Power Efficiency and now has more $$$ to keep on improving power efficiency and gaining the Title Crown for performance.

Just look at the Steam Deck, the first generation of APU's that can properly game @ 720p60.
AMD already has more powerful & efficient APU's then the one they gave Valve.
6) Give AMD/Intel time. They'll catch up in due time.

The problem with AMD is that they seem to treat NVIDIA the same way they treat Intel, but NVIDIA is just way ahead of AMD in image reconstruction modalities and it's really making AMD look bad on the GPU side of things.
No they don't, AMD perfectly understands how big of a threat nVIDIA is.

They don't take Jen-sen Huang lightly.

Same with Intel, Pat Gelsinger is a legit threat to Lisa Su's road to the top with AMD in tow.

nVIDIA is ahead currently, but given the proprietary nature of DLSS, alot of developers are prefering FSR 2.0 due to the Open Source nature.

DLSS may go the way of Gsync and just kind of "Be there" while FSR 2.0 will become widely adopted since it's open source.

x86 Software legacy is HUGE and there's alot of businesses who won't even consider porting to ARM.

Moving software over to ARM isn't a trivial move. There's ALOT of testing that has to be done to validate things in a professional piece of software.

Not to mention the target OS market for software might be dependent on what OS you're targeting.

I wouldn't have expected them to hit the ground running with their GPUs tbh. Your first product always have problems. But I didn't expect them to have this much of an impact
