People who have lived in a region for thousands of years tend to have a common appearance and a common gene pool. I think I am correct in stating there is an assumption that the appearance is due to the common gene pool.

The fairly recent genetic sequencing of ancient Siberians has got me thinking about this assumption. There are a bunch of articles about Mal'ta. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.342.6157.409 is one of them.

About 30% of pre European-colonized American DNA is European but the percentage varies among indivuduals and as far as I know the common features are shared by individuals regardless of DNA sequence.

I am thinking that cultural environment and geographical environment are what lead to similarities in appearance.
