I did for like a decade with mediocre pay.

The work wasn't bad, but no one is respectful of your sleep time. They assume since you're home at noon that you can do shit for them. It's the equivalent of asking someone to go to your house at 3am and wait the rest of the day for someone to come and install the internet. That's my sleep time!

I did exactly that.

It was okay for a while, but it will fuck your life up.

It has actually taken a good three years to get my sleep in some kind of normal order.

At some point, your friends will learn to not even ask you if you want to do something because they know you will be so tired. I would wake up at 5PM and my energy wouldn't kick in until 7.

I'm certainly a closing shift guy.
But getting out at 4:15 AM for years will mess you up.

Do I miss the Money, Yes!! Do I miss the perks...sorta, but I am bad about burning paid days off and shit.

If you're going to do it, give it a shot, but don't do it for long.

All you have to do is take a short nap when you get home and then go to sleep early and everything is basically normal. You just have to keep a regular schedule.

Its nice being able to do things during the daytime when everyone else is at work.

Mine didn't. I would stay up all night and sleep all day and it was hard to get to sleep because of the sun. I had to put tin foil on my windows to stop the sunlight because I didn't have blackout curtains. I hated it because I lost a lot of my life. All I did for 3 days was sleep and I missed out on a lot of gaming and shit.

I remember going see a wrestling PPV because I got a rare Sunday off and then passed out on the floor while the matches went on.

I worked grave for 13 months. It took about two solid months for my body to adjust to the backward sleep hours. I basically had no life during that time, just slept and worked. I literally sleepwalked around the gaming floor (worked at a casino) like a zombie during the final two hours of my shift for those first couple months. It was rough but I eventually adjusted. I would sleep from 9-3 and have enough time to get stuff done before work. But after a year the hours were no longer compatible with my life and I found a day job in an office.

I have for several of my jobs, and it's my preferred shift. I am not a morning person, so getting up for a job in the morning is rough for me. Evening jobs are ok, but it feels like you don't have time for anything else but work. Graveyard shifts often have less people to deal with, and you still get the afternoon to take care of stuff, and it's way easier staying up than waking up.

So if it offered better benefits then absolutely.

I have. This was back in 2005, I was getting around 12.50 an hour, which at that time, when min. wage was maybe 8.75 CAD, that was a lot of money. I'd also take any overtime I could get and work holidays. I was able to clear out the Jumbo Video (Canadian Blockbuster) movie library in just a couple months.

It was also one of the worst jobs I've ever had as I was being extremely overworked. I'm talking working 29/30 days a month. 10-12 hour shifts. Highly illegal, my boss got fired because of it.

Way, way back when I worked at a grocery store there was an opening for being the guy that changes all the sale price tags throughout the store on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I took it but gave it up after about a month, not because of the time of day but because it ended up being way more difficult of a job than I had realized I was working the whole shift and only getting maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through it. (It probably also didn't help that state law apparently requires all the price tags to be aligned to the far right of each item's place on the shelf, a fact I was not aware of or informed about until near the end of my first shift on that job in which I had been centering the price tags instead.)
I can't prove anything and it might just have just been my depression and low self-worth talking but I feel like trying that position and failing to continue doing it for very long got me on management's bad side and they were just looking for excuses to cut my hours and get rid of me after that.

Ya, and trying to fall asleep after working the floor was just not happening.
