In his defense of marriage equality, Rogan blasted Republicans who oppose it.

Its not just abortion rights, but now theyre going after gay marriage too, which is so strange to me, Rogan began. Gay marriage is not silly. Its marriage its marriage from people that are homosexual, and its, for them, its important. They want it.

Rogan added, They want to affirm their love and their relationship. And the fact that theyre going after that now almost makes me feel like they want us to fight. They wanna divide us in the best way they can. And this is the best way for them to keep pulling off all the bullshit theyre doing behind the scenes is to get us to fight over things like gay marriage or get us to fight over things like abortion. Its just like, why are you removing freedoms?

Schulz (comic Andrew Schultz, who was the guest) responded in agreement. If you are gonna say that marriage is an important cultural institution to the fabric of America, you cant remove it from Americans, he said.

Its so homophobic, said Rogan, Because youre saying theres something wrong with being homosexual by saying that you are opposed to gay marriage. Youre saying youre opposed to gay people.

Rogan discussed marriages legal benefits, and spoke about being concerned with people saying he's with the GOP.

The fact that theyre going after that now, like thats the kind of s**t that keeps me from being a Republican. Its only one of the kind of theres a bunch of s**t that keeps you from being a Republican, Rogan said.

Joe Rogan is your typical pre-crisis Glenn Beck libertarian. But as Glenn Beck showed, and many people like him as well, the longer you're exposed to the crazy far right, the more they start to rub off on you.

Going back and listening to Glenn Beck's early days is just crazy, because that person clearly left the building and never came back.

He just is being taken advantage of by right-wing grifters who see how they can take advantage of his platform, most of the left-wing ones are way less likeable, and Rogan is starting to drink the Kool-aid he's constantly being given. Covid 100% helped push this along fast.

Times like this kind of just show he kind of knows its happening and gets defensive when its brought up.

He used to be pro vax too

Give it a few years and he'll be nodding in agreement as his guest talks about sending gay people to camps.

Rogan is smart enough to not pour all the crazy out at once. Hence his popularity. He can draw in the right wing grift while maintaining tiny amounts of plausible deniablity that "protect" him from the shit guys like Peterson and Shapiro get.

Case in point: Joe Rogan was an avid Donald Trump supporter.... but only because he couldn't vote for Bernie Sanders' socialist America.

That makes absolutely no sense but it's enough fuel for the Alt-right to go "How can you call Rogan one of us, he may fuel all of our nonsense conspiracy theories but he supported Bernie Sanders when he knew Sanders was 100% definately going to lose to Biden in a landslide while also supporting Trump."

He was a vocal Donald Trump supporter, denied Covid, pushes weird conspiracy theories such as Democrats starting wildfires.

These aren't one offs, he does it consistently over and over again. And when he gets backlash his defense isn't "I'm wrong" it's "Lol why are you listening to me anyway?" from the man who knows millions of people listen to every word he says.

You really can't pull the "Oh he isn't really alt-right. He said he likes pot and is okay with gay people while promoting Trump and Desantis who are openly against them."

He doesn't support that. He was calling out how hypocritical it is that it is apparently easier to get away with killing someone than it is stealing from the homeless. His joke was, "Better not take something from them, kill them instead cause you're more likely to get away with the crime"

He was calling out how easy it is in the US to get away with murder.

Crazy thing is when Glenn Beck wasn't talking about politics he was actually a normal dude. Only when politics entered the field did he go completely batshit insane.

I swear there's something fucked in the head with some people. And I don't mean "hurr durr Republican is mental illness" I mean something is specifically wrong with people like Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, etc. Something that goes well beyond racism or xenophobia. It's like they're behaving like paranoid schizophrenia but without the hallucinations and disorganized thoughts.

I dont believe that it was a joke at all. And it resulted in someone killing 2 homeless people shortly after he said it. Thats no mere coincidence. Rogan is promoting stochastic terrorism and he doesnt realize it.

I think the dude has no idea the impact he has, but do we blame Holden Caufield for the actions of David Chapman?

Is Joe Rogan influential? Yes. Does he have a certain obligation to understand that and he doesn't really understand that? Yes. Does that mean that his words, totally misinterpreted, are entirely his fault? That he is responsible for the actions of some idiot who didn't understand WTF he was actually saying? I don't think so.

And I'm pretty far fucking left wing so it isn't about trying to "save" some right wing person.

This actually wasn't that strange a thing. Bernie and Trump are both populists pushing the very obvious fact that the system is broken and they can fix it. When Bernie lost a lot of people moved to Trump who was saying the same thing but had a different solution. Because Hilary and Biden didn't offer a solution to that, just the idea the other guy was much worse.

But that's exactly what this thread is doing, pointing out that he's extremely inconsistent with his stances, that you can't, or at least shouldn't, just fit him neatly into the "Right" box everyone want to put him in.

That's lie saying everyone that leans left is not only a bleeding heart liberal, but is 100% all in on a Joe Biden 2nd term.

It's weird to go after Gay Marriage because even a lot of Republicans are for it. From talking to a lot of my republican leaning friends, they said they're okay with it because it's not "intrusive" like a lot of the trans issues like forcing them to learn new pronouns and what not. A lot of the fearmongering back in 2008 with Prop 8 was that they're going to force kids to become gay and all that when that hasn't been true at all since it was legalized in 2015.

Thats not at all what I said. He gives platforms to too many conspiracy theorists and white supremacists that dont deserve them.

Tbf, he also challenges them in ways their fanbase would never see them challenged on any other platform. Because Joe Rogan doesn't provide the safespace echo chamber people pretend he does. Most people now are just mimicking that talking point without ever actually watching any of his show themselves. Then again, I admittedly stopped watching like 3 years ago and it could of changed.

But since then people here have reacted to topics about him where a video was provided. Everyone was ganging up using certain assumptions. Then, Id actually watch the video and it would be the exact opposite of what everyone who didn't watch it was implying it was. Which made me lose all trust in this places perspective on Joe Rogan. As to where, Ive never actually seen Joe Rogan do anything that disingenuous. He might have a platform that gives the wrong people spotlight, but he isn't so disingenuous he will try to tear people down just to join in on a hate mob. Or at least, I haven't witnesses that happen.

Bottom line. I think Joe Rogan can say some really dumb shit. Especially against the trans community. But this place has such a bad reputation when trying to apply actual insight that I would still trust his lead if I absolutely had to pick between him and CE. Rogan is less likely to act like he has more insight than he has. He'll admit when he's talking out his ass. CE won't
