So weve already known for awhile that Sony is in acquisition mode and now that the sale of Bungie is complete, the next big one may be coming soon. Sony and Square have been linked on more than one occasion with most recently being Square shedding all their Western studios back in May to potentially streamline a potential acquisition. Now a recent interview on gamesindustry.biz with Eidos-Montreal founder, Stephane DAstous, has brought those rumors to the forefront again. In the interview he talks about Eidos-Montreals impending sale and he reiterated the rumors that obviously Sony would really like to have Square-Enix within their wheelhouse and that he heard Sony said theyre really interested in Square Enix Tokyo, but not the rest. So I think [Square Enix CEO Yosuke] Matsuda-san put like a garage sale Personally if it does happen overall I think I would fine with it although it would be sad to see another of Japans juggernauts of the past just be absorbed into another company. Most of Square Enixs output has been on Sony consoles anyway so its natural to associate their games with Playstation, although I still associate Dragon Quest with Nintendo platforms so it would be unfortunate if those no longer make it over to their platforms. Maybe they could finally put those damn FF Pixel Remasters on consoles though XD --- https://imgtc.com/i/iJnhdkc.gif https://imgtc.com/i/j45EVGx.png ... Copied to Clipboard!

It would be pretty bad, as Square-Enix would effectively cease to exist, a load of people would lose their jobs, and vast swathes of art would go all over the place with a lot of it being lost to history. On the other hand Square-Enix management have clearly had no idea what theyre doing for nearly a decade. I would much rather see them completely clean house at the top rather than split up and sell off though. --- I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh azuarc ... Copied to Clipboard!

it strikes me as pointless when Song already de facto owns them in the war between Sony and Microsoft. If you want Squares stuff, youre probably on Playstation already. Just doesnt seem like a super meaningful loss for Xbox. but Maybe Im wrong and theyre selling more copies of FF Chaos whatever on Xbox than I would have thought. so it mostly just fucks over Nintendo, I guess? And consequently fucks over gamers because it denies us that good portable RPG action we crave dont do it plz --- For your Azuarc . I feel like Id be fine with it since Nintendo doesnt really have any exclusive Square games I care about. A lot of that stuff is generally multiplat and if PlayStation got the greater focus theyd all look/run better too. Like Id hope DQ12 is being developed mostly with PS5 in mind since the Switch could be 7-8 years old before it releases and already struggles enough as it is ... Copied to Clipboard!

As someone who only buys Nintendo consoles at launch (Sony's typically after several years, and Microsoft's not at all) and prefers portable games, that would really suck --- Congrats to azuarc, GotD2 Guru champ! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I realize a lot of people's gut reaction is negative, but Matsuda is a lunatic and is about to bury SE in the ground with a Crypto Blockchain NFT nuke, so personally I'm enthusiastically in support of it. Square Enix has finally announced its NFT (or non-fungible token) project after threatening us with the companys embrace of the controversial and largely reviled-by-gamers blockchain technology. I would not like this. They make a lot of smaller stuff that I think under Sony they would be discouraged from doing, like Dungeon Encounters for example --- http://i.imgur.com/k0v0z3q.gif ... Copied to Clipboard!
