For most of the 2010s, Warner Bros. cast a massive shadow at San Diego Comic-Con. Between its substantial presence on the showroom floor and a pull-out-all-the-stops presentation in Hall H that could stretch well beyond two hours, the studio was second to none not even its main rival, Marvel Studios in its ability to leverage the largest fan convention in North America to its advantage.

This year, the studio took a decidedly different approach. It skipped the show floor completely, including a presence for DC Comics. And while it did use its hour-long panel in Hall H to showcase two of its 2022 releases Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods the studios biggest DC movies for 2023, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash, were completely missing.

Instead, Shazam! 2 star Zachary Levi bantered with costars Lucy Liu, Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer and director David F. Sandberg, while Helen Mirren and Rachel Zegler appeared in a scripted video message in which Mirren celebrated her female costars by saying, Yay, pussy power!

It was up to Dwayne Johnson, in costume as Black Adam, to bring the drama, emerging on a raised platform surrounded in smoke and sending a bolt of lightning into the audience activating blue lights in lanyards handed out to the Hall H audience.

Both Aquaman 2 and The Flash completed shooting months ago, which could have given their respective directors, James Wan and Andy Muschietti, time to put together at least some footage to whip up the buzz commensurate with the characters stature among the Comic-Con faithful.

The circumstances of Heard and Millers situations are quite different. However, in both cases, Warner Bros. is facing down an impossible dilemma without much precedent, even in the #MeToo era: How to promote their escapist superhero franchises when their stars are embroiled in toxic scandals that overwhelm all other conversation about them.

I really feel like DC would be best served to just stop making movies starring anyone from the Justice League movies, take a 5+ year break, and come back reinvented.

Wow, that's nuts. Wonder how much money was lost over all of this, I guess I understand Flash, but you'd think they could recast or cut from Aquaman and still release it.

If they've filmed two special effects blockbusters and are refusing to release them, that's easily $400 million they're burning.

it's such a goddamn mess, anyway. I'm pretty sure henry caville is long since done being superman. ben affleck is done being batman, too, and he never even did his own movie. and we've already had another batman actor who I don't even know if he's in the same canon as the justice league or if he'll come back for another movie. that's their two biggest characters, only one of which ever got his own movie (and it was back in 2013)

they did a joker movie and I also don't know if he's meant to be canon with the justice league. the flash is a flunk. aquaman is troubled. I think cyborg's actor has refused to work with WB. suicide squad was trash, and then they made a confused sequel/remake ???? and gave it the dumbest most ambiguous identity "the suicide squad," and it flopped bc nobody could tell what it was meant to be, a sequel, a remake, or what. they made a movie for harley quinn, vaguely connected to jared leto's joker I think? and it was a mess. All they have is wonder woman, but they haven't announced development of another movie for her afaik. shazam is meant to be decent, but I don't hear anybody clamoring over that property.

Of all of these movies, most of them have been critically panned. their universe has been a total flop. Meanwhile even marvel is starting to struggle with keeping their universe fresh.

Ironic, considering that, IIRC, the Flash film was going to be based around Flashpoint, and was basically going to be a soft "reboot" of sorts.

Amber Turd was always super replaceable

Aquaman should never have been a part of the controversies at all because it's a Jason Mamoa movie, period, not an Amber Heard flick
plenty of other women would agree, including Mamoa's wife who never liked Heard buzzin around her husband to begin with
only reason Aquaman movie would need canceling is the filming is already done and Heard's ugly ass is in too much of it

I was in this camp at first too, I get it.

However, I thought about how sleezy and manipulative Amber Heard has been shown to be. Actors and other staff members said she was "difficult to work with" and that usually means worse. I would not be surprised if some staff were afraid to say anything about her behavior because it would literally cost them their job. I bet her cutthroat nastiness was part of why Warner Brothers took so damn long to axe her out of fear of lawsuits and media scandals. She was even proven to have certain media identities basically stalked and harassed for pointing out anything critical about her during the court battles with Depp (especially details that could HELP Depp).

I mean Heard sounds like evil nasty shit to deal with overall. Other women were vocal about not liking her behavior. How much you wanna bet Mamoa picked up on the vibes working beside her and realized her media drama and personal toxicity could sink the movie if they weren't careful? His career was vulnerable with her around and he's got a family at home. If I had a wife and kids depending on me and my movie career, I likely would have played pacifist for their sake too.

I would not be shocked to hear the rumors of Heard's far-reaching manipulative fuckery intimidated even Mamoa. He's pretty and popular, but a Hollywood icon quickly learns just how easily that can be scrapped in less than a year if they cross the wrong person...

The DCEU isn't cohesive and established enough for him to be throwing his weight around the way Chris Evans or RDJ could have done in the MCU. Even then, RDJ asking them to remove any scenes with Paltrow when they'd already done the movie would have probably gotten him laughed out of the office.

Id release em. Add a part to the end of the flash movie where he fucks up the timeline and somehow him and Meras family ancestry got changed at some point so now they look different. And anyone else that's going to be using new actors. This will both fix the actor/actress problem and allow them to start anew kinda.

Aquaman made over a billion dollars, thats way more than even The Batman made. He definitely has enough pull in his franchise.

nope, which is exactly why i don't support it nor do i have zero issue with criticizing it publically. the US is a shithole right now and if it were easier to move to different countries, i'd seriously consider it.

And if i was a celebrity in her shoes with that influence i'd damn well be shouting my criticisms from the rooftops

Ezra and Heards antics were well known while both movies were in early production. So whoevers call it was not to can them immediately there and then should be fired regardless of their position and blacklisted from the industry forever.

On another note The movie industry should seriously stop giving these actors any real power or protection. Especially in a industry they are so easily replaceable in. These people are paid millions and all they have to do is preform well, and not be a PoS on or off set.
