My samsung s9+ is on its last legs it seems.

I was gonna get the s22+ and just accept that they're charging more for less with no charger, no headphones or headphone jack, no nothing. But now I'm wondering if I should get a new 5g post paid plan from one of my service providers or stick my 4g chip into the s22+

For me the screen burn in was already pretty bad with the menu bar because stupid samsung refuse to dedicate a portion of the phone to an actual menu bar and instead made it all screen. But now after 4 years the screen burn in has gotten so much worse. I actually see the keyboard itself

Stop maximizing your brightness and having 10 minute screen timeouts.

I've had 3 OLED smartphones now and none of them have had screen burn-in. I've also had my Galaxy Tab S4 for almost 4 years now that is basically my personal laptop that I use for everything - no burn-in whatsover.

My Note is going on 2 years - 6 years altogether between the 3 phones and my Samsung tablet alone is going on 4 years.

I always have auto-brightness enabled and my screen timeout is 1 minute.

You get a charging cable but no charging brick. It "saves on packaging"

Timeout doesn't really do anything helpful unless you have a habit of falling asleep with your phone in your hand. You should be locking the screen instantly when you are done using it.

There's no need for me to manually lock the screen with just a 1 minute timeout to avoid burn-in. Control brightness and screen timeouts and you should be fine.

On one hand, it's cheap and petty of them. On the other hand, don't we all have like a dozen of those things floating around?

Install a few of these around the house and you'll never miss the bricks.

I have an S9+ and I have the exact same keyboard and notification/browser burn-in.

In fact, this is ridiculous, but the GameFAQs URL is also burned into my screen since that's what I'm looking at about 60% of the time.

You guys set your brightness to max? I've had my Samsung for 4 years now with the brightness on dim I only max it out in direct sunlight which is very rare.

And what in particular bothers me is why in hell they insist on having the menu bar be part of the screen. The alternative is to have to swipe for the menu bar to appear, which is all kinds of dumb. That 1 mm of space did not need to be part of the screen, I was perfectly happy with bezels. Hell if my s5 didn't fall apart, I would say it was as close to good as possible, with an actual physical menu button that I can click and a bezel dedicated to the home button, back button and menu/recent apps button

Yeah honestly I don't use most of the advanced features, it's literally just whatsapp and google and youtube. I don't need much from a smartphone software wise, it's design wise that's the problem for me, with modern phone's really narrow screens and insistence on removing bezels for less than a millimeter of screen space that's completely unneeded and unwarranted

Some of these responses are like, you're using your phone wrong! Reminds me of Apple when they had antennagate. No, you aren't using your phone wrong, it's just poorly designed if you experience screen burn in.

Pretty sure any LED display is subject to it, especially if you have something sharp and white displayed on something dark.

My phone which has amoled screen is almost 4 years old and probably has burn in. I don't see it rn tho but I'm sure some single color static backgrounds may reveal it.

Honestly. I pretty much ignore those responses that are straight up victim blaming. "Oh you're using your phone at the max brightness? You're not supposed to use it! Keep it at lowest brightness and only use in small increments!"

One post even said something about screen timeout which literally has no bearing on the matter because besides the fact that my screen timeout is only 1 minute, I don't wait for the screen to timeout and automatically lock, that's what the power button is for when I'm done texting or watching a video or whatever, I automatically press it to close the screen and then press it again to open said screen. Especially if I'm going to stick the phone in my pocket, I'm not gonna wait for the screen timeout when the jostling in a person's pocket activates the touch screen and can lead to pocket dialing or whatever.

But them seriously saying you shouldn't have your phone at 100% brightness or whatever is like saying you shouldn't use the max brightness setting on DS or PSP or such. Guess what if it's daylight outside of course the phone is gonna be in max brightness, I shouldn't have to explain it nor justify how I use my phone regardless.

Basically iPhone 4 came out and people were experiencing poor reception from simply holding the phone. So, holding the phone was enough to block reception. People were told they were "holding the phone wrong" by Apple no less. Apple released rubber bumpers to solve the issue, it was pretty cringe.

Prob just panel lottery? All amoled screens will burn in but some seem to get it much faster. My brother's s8 had youtube logo burnt into his phone after less than a year. Meanwhile my note 9 hasn't gotten youtube logo burn-in after almost 4 years.

Going through some tv forums you can find posts of people's LG tvs getting burn in before 1000 hour mark. Others have had their oled tv for years (like first widely distributed oled tv old around 2007 to 2010) and no burn in

Again I reiterate, there was no reason to have the menu bar be part of the screen, they could have just dedicated a small amount of space for a physical home button and space for the back button/menu button on either side of the physical home button.

Now it's permanently etched onto the phone. It's goddamn ridiculous.

Could be. TVs are a different matter. Heh I still remember our extremely old plasma tv from 15 years ago getting screen burn-in when I was play KH 1 on it. Whenever the screen turned white I could literally see the outline of Sora's health bar and it freaked me out, first time that ever happened to me and I had no idea what it was.

We'd moved on to LCD after which reportedly doesn't have screen burn in, and as for now... I don't know how these smart tvs and 4k tvs and 8k tvs fit into the 15 year old "LCD vs Plasma" debate.

Also we use phones so much more now, and the TV is honestly just there for the occasional gaming session once a week, while we're glued to our phones and stare at them like 12 hours a day or something I dunno
