So like, when we're in the middle of a record setting heat wave brought on by global warming, we should turn our ACs off and hope to get through the summer okay.

Makes total sense. Next lets get rid of heaters in cold environments in the winter.

No ACs are not the problem. The problem is getting electricity from burning coal and natural gas instead of getting power from splitting atoms.

The bigger issue with AC is that Freon needs to be disposed of properly.

if someone is dismantling an old AC unit or recharging one. They need to properly drain the line sets of the Freon instead of just letting it go into the atmosphere cause its seriously one of the worst things for our ozone layer.

then yeah - electricity consumption. Home solar can only keep up so much to help alleviate strains on utility grids.

At least in Arizona new ac systems arent allowed to have Freon. Its really expensive to convert from Freon to the safer fluid, though.

I still can't understand how we allowed corporations to gaslight us into thinking that consumers should bear the responsibility to fight climate change.

Even with this obnoxious heat wave I still don't really think air conditioning makes sense in northern Europe. Setting up such a system because 6 days a year its too hot for a fan to cool down properly seems like a ginourmous waste of money.

And I do admit that occsionally I have wondered, considering the price, how it's just a given in America that every home has such a system.

But I also spent a month in Japan during the summer and holy fuck am I glad they had air conditioning.

humidity kills. at a certain point, humans essentially lose the ability to sweat, and then the temperature doesn't even have to get all that high to be deadly

Because consumers are also partially to blame and should shoulder some of the burden. Rather then shifting all of it and responsibility onto corporations simply meeting demand. While hypocritically riding around in massive SUVs, or trucks they never needed.

Your mother should not be treating you like that when you are her child. Her family should also not be treating you like shit as you are her son not only your dads.

This is also when you trash a hotel room the day you leave and treat that staff like absolute shit if they keep antagonizing your group. Normally I am against being an asshole or a savage but there are times you must assert that this is not ok.

Anyway regardless, I do find it curious when some view AC as being worse than heating. Both in the sense that they view AC as a luxury and not a need, and that is it's more harmful to the environment. Unless I'm wrong, aren't heaters way less efficient and more harmful to environment than AC? I mean, that's partly why there's a push for heat pumps these days

But I CANNOT live another day without air conditioning!

My AC went out yesterday and by 9am it was 83 degrees in the house. It was terrible.
