Just today I narrowly avoided a big accident. I'm driving down a straight road in the left lane. A car pulls out right in front of me. I hoped that they were going to remain in the right lane, but no. The asshat actually moved into my lane. The timing was so egregiously awful that you could only assume that they were deliberately trying to ram into me. I had to slam on my brakes while swerving around him, barely missing the median. I just couldn't believe what had just happened.

And the only thing that spared me from that collision was the fact that was already anticipating it. Every time I come up upon people trying to pull out, I keep my foot over the break, getting ready for them to throw themselves in front of me. I always have to drive assuming everyone else on the road is a complete and utter moron, and it's just exhausting. And then later that same trip, there's another driver who's just driving in the right lane with their left blinker on, and then just staying there. And I knew I couldn't try to pass them, because the moment I'm up alongside side of them, that's when they would finally decide to change lanes.

I just don't even want to leave the house anymore. There are so many places I want to go, but the thought of being on the road just kills my desire. I really hate people sometimes.

I'd love driving if there were no other people on the road. I sympathize TC, I feel the same way about going places sometimes. It's insane how dangerous driving actually is once you think about it.

I wish we had better mass transit so I could just chill and read a book or something.

I am continually surprised by the amount of drivers that think they are entitled to a lane change and will intentionally start moving into yours. This forces you to slow town or potentially get rammed.

It is like continual gamed of chicken. Or some form of game theory where thr aggressive driver almost always knows it is just safer for you to make way for their assholery than cause a crash. So they do it with inpunity.

I've noticed that yield signs just mean for YOU to get over for them. Especially when it comes to 18 wheelers.

Yeah, I've gotten that way too. Overly-cautious driving and assuming everybody on the road is an idiot, because...yes, near accidents are way too fucking common.

That's the thing, I love driving. It's the other drivers that ruin it for me. I'd drive cross-country if we had zombie-apocaplyse levels of traffic.

Yeah, you just have to drive defensively. Always assume people will do something stupid. Keep a space cushion around your vehicle. Watch the drivers around you and read their actions (Eg. people will usually look over multiple times if they want to change lanes, even if they don't signal). Once you get used to doing that, you can just kind of plan around the actions of other drivers.

Some crashes definitely happen because the driver who's supposed to make way for the lane-changer doesn't slow down and acts just as aggressive, even though they pretty much know it's gonna result in a crash.

I wish there was a way you could shoulder check people with your car but not cause any physical damage. Like shoving someone in person but the car version of it, because yelling and waving your fist just doesn't get the message across well enough.

I agree it's damn near everytime I go out and drive I'm almost in an accident. Just yesterday the same car cut in front of me twice. It's always some teenager who thinks they're hot shit, driving like it's need for speed.

The first time he was in the fast lane and I was in the slow lane merging. We both wanted to go into the middle lane. However, I'm ahead of him, so he sees me going into the middle lane with my signals on, but decides to gun through it anyways and go all the way to the merging lane to get off on the next exit a mile down. I pull back into the merging lane and let him through so we don't get in an accident.

I'm not too irritated shit happens. We are a mile down and the exit is a two lane exit. I'm in the middle lane and he's in the exit lane. At this point, I'm slightly ahead of him because the exit lane is going slow and I'm going the speed limit down the exit ramp. He realized that he didn't want to get off on the exit ramp, so instead of just slowing down and waiting for my car to clear, which he could have easily done since nobody was behind us, he decides to speed up and cut me off to try and get off exit ramp. No turn signals both times he cut me off. The only reason we didn't get into a car accident was because I stepped on my break just in time. I could have clipped his car and he would have done an whole 180.

It's almost always some kid in a BMW. I have no qualms if they raised the driving age limit. I really wanted to bitch about this, so thanks for the topic.

This is another thing I encounter often. Instead sometimes I'll have a person behind me, pass me on the left, speed up and then cut me off just to take an exit that they would have been in the correct lane for if they had just stayed where they were. But no, they had to save those .349 seconds and risk an accident. It's completely dumbfounding the things people do on the road. They have no respect for the multi-ton machine that they're controlling. It's like they've never taken a physics course.

Almost daily I see people ride behind me and then gas it to 60-70 coming to an alternate merge because suddenly they're in a hurry.

Random ass people literally think they're racing when they're on the road, except they have none of the skill of a professional.

Couple months ago I was backing out of my own driveway and nearly rear ended someone because he decided it was a good idea to stop his vehicle on my side of the road, facing towards my driveway. He screamed at me, got behind me while I was driving and then passed me in a residential area. I naturally laid the horn on him, he got out and motioned for me to get out and confront him. I pretty much said F that, and turned around and drove the other way.

I wasn't dealing with his bs. Dad said that if he was there, he would have knocked the guy out, and he wasn't a safe driver.

I've seen people at afternoon rush hour look both ways at a red light and then proceed to floor it through it.

Just Friday, I saw someone make a pass on a double yellow line with oncoming traffic closing in, to gain a single car length. There were multiple cars still in front of them. And the kicker? After surprising the car they passed with their stupid move, they blipped the turn signal while cutting back in front of them.

It seems like people don't use turn signals to show intent. They flash them briefly after they have already thrust their decision onto everyone. I guess so they can go "But I signal" if their stupidity causes an accident
