I got a new Galaxy A53 5G and one of the cables that I got as a USB C cable works with my Galaxy S9, fits right in the USB port, but does NOT fit in my A53. I think the cable I need is a 1.2M. Not sure what size the other cable I got that doesn't fit is.

The 1.2M, and other stuff is about the length of the cable. A USB-C is a USB-C. The only reasons a USB-C won't fit into a USB-C, is the cable isn't a USB-C, or there's something in the port (which happens quite often). Check it's clear.

Yeah, this. I don't know if any USB-C that doesn't fit unless something is blocking something.

I thought this was gonna be about the fast charging capabilities of different USB c cables and wall chargers, which actually is annoying.

But if it's a fit issue, all USB c cables have the same universal fit.

You need to know all the Symbols to figure out what speed is your USB Cable.

Or you can spend more $$$ to buy the ThunderBolt 4 specified cable, assuming you don't run into a fake cable on Amazon.

A Google engineer is testing USB Type-C cables so you don't have to

Not all USB-C cables are made up to snuff and if you pick out a fake or a bad one, it could literally FRY your PC.

This. USB-C describes the type of connector it has. If it's a different shape, then it's a different USB type. Micro USB's were common for Android phones before USB-C.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hardware

Remember, original USB A/B ports were 4 connectors / wires.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/2/AAAFvAAADfIq.png
USB Micro-A/B with OTG introduced the 5th connector for 5 connectors/wires to allow connecting of the same Connector head on both ends.

SuperSpeed USB added in 5 more connectors to the base 5 connectors for a total of 10 connectors / wires.

USB Type-C, the so-called Universal Connector is OVERLY COMPLEX and WAY too flexible.
That's good & bad for so many reasons that I would need to write an essay on it.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/3/AAAFvAAADfIr.png
24 Freakin Micro Contacts / wires that are as thin as a human hair, if not thinner.

Quality of your Hair Strand thick Copper needs to be super high quality and pure.

The Micro-Controller managing each USB-C has to be included and programmed correctly.

All Wire-Shielding has to be done correctly.

If you don't, you're going to get a USB-C cable that can't do everything and will only do limited functionality as specified by the Micro-Controller.

Or it can literally FRY your LapTop if the vendor did a slip shod job on it.

I think we need a Updated Super Speed Connector that works with the latest USB specification, but takes all the Miniaturization advantages of the Type-C port and makes a smaller port.

One that is only a "Single Super Speed" lane instead of multiple lanes that is programmable.

Maybe we should have a USB Mini-C port that is simpler, smaller, cheaper.

Maybe a small elongated Hexagonal port like this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/4/AAAFvAAADfIs.jpg

But with this type of pin lay-out that is reversible.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/5/AAAFvAAADfIt.png
One where you can easily split a single Type-C port into 3x or more Mini-C ports, each with a Single Super Speed Lane.

We don't need everything in our Port Lives to be Jumbo Super Gulp XL sized bandwidth

Sometimes, we need Ports with Bandwidths that are: Small, Medium, & Large.

Well like why is there different Sim and SD cards and things?

Can't they make things universal like the old days.

I mean at one time everything was IDE and later SATA.

USB cards and drives worked on everything.

Didn't matter the brand or name of the PC you were using.

No.

Looks like something the same but made different just to get you to buy it.

Aside from adding a SD to the thingy where the SIM is.

And God forbid if you lose the tool thingy to open it.

Had to use a paperclip to change mine out.

I ordered and got a new one though.

They serve very, very different purposes. Complaining that they both exist is like complaining that both monitors and external hard drives exist.

A external hard drive is just made to where it doesn't fit inside of a computer case.

Think of SIM-cards as your Phones:
  • ID-Card
  • Communications License
  • Key to use the Mobile Cellular Network.
All it does is gives your phone access to the greater Cell Network via your Phone Carrier.
SIM-cards are generally a one-time fee or free with your Phone Plan.

-

The SD-card is general purprose storage of data, equivalent to your HDD in basic function, but much smaller in physical form factor.
Other than similar physical sizes on modern phones between the Nano-SIM & Micro-SD card.
Nano SIM = 12.3 mm x _8.8 mm x 0.67 mm
Micro-SD = 15.0 mm 11.0 mm x 1.00 mm
They serve very different purposes
