I cant tell how many posts about them are satire or not (and I feel like I still wont know after this topic, but it's worth a shot). I know getting one is a long ways out, but as a PC gamer who fell in love with gaming through Gameboy (and loves the switch) it's an obvious yes but.. I dont know.

It seems clunky, large, heavy. Is it even really portable? I want to use it on breaks at work.

Hows the battery life? How often does it need an internet connection? Do I have to keep it in a temperature controlled environment, or can I leave it in my car between breaks (I live in NH).

I'll figure out what games I can play on it after, I'm sure it can play at least half of what I have. But..

Is it worth going for?

Only issue is that it does have a rather short battery, but it charges quickly as well

I dont lose sleep over anything other than the existential dread of life living in the USA. I appreciate the thought though.
(That's a lie, I stay up once in a while thinking about getting one, but I'm afraid I wont use it much)

I would say 4-5 hours, but I also keep it on sleep and don't power it off. Which could effect it. How long does it take to charge? No idea, I tend to charge it before I go to sleep

And I saw you were curious about the games - The Steam Deck has this really cool option to sort all your games by how well they work on the Deck. There is a 100% only, 100% and games that work but might have some issues [text being small, might need to use the touch screen], those two + games that need a keyboard/mouse.

Oh, and it is a tad bit big. It can be hard to hold it with one hand to scratch your nose or something, but I have small hands

I've been very tempted, I have a Switch and a Series X, not sure I need another. It looks great though, I have a lot of down time at work where I can game on a handheld and this would be perfect.

The best thing about it is of course being able to [ToS] and being able to play all those modded games on a handheld, and I have a LOT of games.

I think the biggest games for me will be:

MMZ collection (an all time favorite)
MCC (Who doesnt love some Halo?)
DMC (I love the series)

But.. about that internet thing.. and achievements..hows that work?

Edit: Maybe MGSV. MGS is my favorite series. If I get the most expensive one I might even try to plug it into my TV and try Baulders Gate 3 on it.

Yeah, you just need a Blutooth M&KB. It helps when using the actual browser and with some games like Crusader Kings 3, and what you're talking about - BG3, which is awesome

I wonder how Dragon Quest Builders 2 runs on it. It's my obsession right now and I'm playing it on Switch.... the frame rate is pretty terrible but I'm tolerating it.

Anyone have an answer to the internet question? That might hold me back from purchasing one.

I have one and play it offline at work on my slow days. Just remember to upload your save to steam cloud when you're done and you're golden.

Idk about the structural integrity. My deck is made of wood.

IMO its worth it. but i wouldnt really consider the thing portable. As far as internet, it only has to connect to the internet as often as you do currently for steam.

You don't need the most expensive version, get the base and a 1TB microsd when it goes on sale.

I was thinking that, but the anti-glare glass and dedicated storage were pretty enticing.

I just had a 2 hr session on my deck last night in no man's sky while my friend was playing his game in vr. Everything just worked. I was able to talk to my friend with the built in mic on the deck. The left trackpad makes navigating menus a breeze. The back bumpers make it easy to do commands in a command heavy game. I can't imagine this game working on a portable that's not the deck...but online functions and built in mic to boot?

People who don't see the value in the deck have 0 imagination

You may as well get in line if youre interested. Its not like we will ever be able to walk into Walmart and buy one, so youve got to get online. I ordered mine almost a year ago and it was supposed to be in Q2 of 2022, but Im still waiting for mine.

This is the result of too many people and not enough production. Also, you literally have to use your steam account to order it (and your steam account must be somewhat old) to prevent POS scalpers from buying them up.
