Its EXTREMELY store per store and even at that the selection probably sucks.

Back in the day it was easy to come by good clearance. Now its unreliable at best.

back then games were actually changing. we already reached the peak of what humans can do with only so much time to make a game.

companies realized they dont have to make so many new games, just keep re-releasing skyrim HDD or w/e.

Also, digital downloads are most game purchases now, so stores dont really over-estimate the stock they need.

It's also rare for a game to be able to "trick" people like they used to. There is always gameplay footage now so you have a better idea of what you are getting.

No one walks into a store and just buys a random game these days, they know what they want then go looking for it.

Or repetitive fantasy games.

That's because the time it takes to make the average high profile game has increased significantly since the 90s/early 2000s.

Went to a game store yesterday and in their clearance bin was like 40 copies of anthem and Paragon. Can you even play paragon anymore?

No, we totally have reached the peak. It's not to say there won't be developments, but we are on the slow side of the natural log, and it's only going to slow down even more.
