I like what Rogue One and Kenobi do with him. If you look back at the original trilogy, Vader kinda has a huge blindspot behind him. So he's very effective in hallways or with troops behind him but seriously can't do much against a threat at his back. Probably not. 3? Maybe. 2? Yes. One thing I like about the shambling abomination gimmick is it kind of rehabilitates the simplicity of the fights in the first movies in the eyes of new viewers. Like he can't strain himself a lot but when he gets you alone and zeroes in, it means trouble. When you have newer scenes where he's tearing everything to pieces it almost comes off like Vader never tried very hard at all in the originals, Obi Wan duped him into a win that would backfire, he didn't want to kill Luke and then in 6 he straight up managed to lose to him. I do like them implying he has to cover for shortcomings but I don't want to watch every new series they throw out so all I can really do is hope they communicate this well. I might like it if Palpatine was shown to occasionally pull out some insane feat and make Vader look weak by comparison, like Vader got a raw deal and lives an embittered life more in servitude than as an apprentice. It's already canon that despite Vader's efforts, Palpatine was somehow able to return.
