Probably a general superhero decline. Where eventually the only things even left worth watching are the MCU stuff.

The movieverse of Marvel actually brought it back from decades of decline, though the comic book era is still pretty dead.

Now the movie sector is fading as people are tired of super hero movies and the post Endgame story lines just arent interesting.

They planned phase 4 as a break from the bigger storylines. But kinda forgot to tell people that. The thinking was there needed to be breathing room, then covid happened and everything got pushed back or delayed.

Like originally Falcon and Winter Solider was supposed to be first out, then WandaVision and there would have only been about a week or two before they opened with MoM. To make things more cohesive that way.

But the shuffle has kinda hurt them. Its better this way though. Marvel Studios has shown they can adjust, better now than in Phase 5 or something.

Viewer fatigue was going to always happen.

This was a big question a year ago. Disney+ seems to have a decent foundation tho and NWH sold. Marvel continues to dominate multimedia. We have at least 1 more phase ahead of us, either as a swansong or before the MCU collapses into something else. Tbh, Disney & Marvel probably want it collapsed with the fans intact more than anyone.... Priorities are way different than in 2008.

I myself just rewatched the ENTIRE mcu tho and am actively following the releases. Obi-Wan made it harder to hate on Disney+ and delivers the quality promised by Loki. You can expect the MCU to continue to redefine what we expect from sequels and adaptations. In fact, this strength means that they'll only do what they can to deliver it in the most broken state possible if we can stand it lol.

In all likelihood, what they are gonna shoot for is another 10 year period. Blade I, 2, 3 and then a big tie in finishing another 3 phases or so, while pocket universes rise as a truer MCU for new fans.

It just feels like they logically could do so much but are scripted to do one choice. Like Thor has many options but must abide his script. A movie that feels like the characters are forced to follow the script.

Established people > maybe these kids will grow into it and can we fake depicting an established person as a growing character or will it just look like we stifled their acting? Similar to obviously Magneto from the 2000 film was NEVER a big manly man like the one from the comics. His armor is cloth. His sword a pen. His enemy, the mind of society. Etc

Marvel is at the point now where a solid movie from them is 'mid' so that's overall expected. That's basically what mid means anyway.

They do need to figure out how to pace out their TV shows better though yeah. Like it's okay for a TV show to feel like a TV show and not a movie.

I just said it was their TV shows letting them down in the current phase.

Releasing 'mid' movies 20+ movies in isn't surprising. They can't all be big Endgame type stuff.

Theyre introducing too many characters with no apparent connect between any of them.

Theres no Cap America or Iron man like character to carry the torch leader.

Most new characters are also C and D listers.

Its difficult to follow up on endgame as well.

While Ive liked the movies, with Shang Chi being my favorite, the rest have not been up to par. The quality is not fully there. Kevin Feige is slipping. So far theres no movie that can hang in the A tier list. Oh, and I think Ms Marvel is their best series yet, but its hard sell on the hardcore fan demographics. Its pretty much full house with super heroes

Think the main problem comes from not knowing wtf we're going. It all feels so random.

I think the bigger issue with so many characters is that sequels get pushed further out. We were just introduced to a whole bunch of new characters, but it might take several years before we see them again.

This wasn't as big of an issue in the first 3 phases.

but this is more like the new phase 1 not 2 or 3 so it's still setup.

This. People forget that all 3 phases had some mediocre content by MCU standards.

I also think the extra content from all the Disney+ shows is also giving people the impression that this phase is worse than it actually is, since many of the shows were hit or miss for many people.

I can only speak for myself when I say that the only serious problem the MCU has right now is that, like a previous poster said, there's no Cap or Tony-esque figurehead around which all these superheroes can rally.

There's still plenty of time for such a lead character to appear, though. Cap as a character didn't come into his own until Winter Soldier. Falcon could work and would probably be the character I'd most want to see in the leader role atm, although even after FaWS I still think he's got some character development to do before he's capable of leading the Avengers. In another timeline Captain Marvel could have stepped into that role, but for some reason they kept her character too bland in her solo movie (Brie Larson is capable of being very likeable as an actress), and let's be real, they did give the character a little bit of the 'Poochie' treatment in Endgame; pair that with the hateboner that chuds have for her, and I worry there's too many hurdles for her to effectively step into the leader role. Thor is self-admitted to not being a leader and such a role wouldn't fit his character up to this point anyway; though I haven't seen Love and Thunder yet, so maybe that movie is prepping him for a leader role. Doctor Strange is out, in my book; he works best as a supporting character, and imo the worst part about his solo movies is being forced to accept him as a leading man when he's a smug asshole down to his core. Black Panther was probably the most likely character to take up the leader mantle in retrospect, but Boseman's tragic passing no-doubt put a stop to that.
