The man may have been mentally ill, but he was irate and uncooperative, was apparently suicidal, may have had firearms on him and refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to use the vehicle as a weapon. I was recently watching an Audit The Audit video where the police pulled over a suspected drunk driver. He threw out a very surprising statistic. Did you know that most mental health professionals cant even reasonably distinguish between a mental health impairment and a substance abuse impairment? They can manifest such similar symptoms (I guess is the right word) that even someone trained to deal with the mental health of others cant immediately distinguish between the two. So the idea that you can instantly tell who needs police involvement and who needs a social worker is a myth. Immediately the cops escalate things and point a gun at him. Which means the conclusion from this was pretty inevitable. Even when they do shoot him one cop specifically yells that he has a cane. His fellow officers shoot him anyway. Then they all do.
