I've been pulling all-nighters for the past few days. Just doing nothing but writing drafts and touching up on a script for one of the many contests that's coming up (in between all of the procrastinating).

Last year, I made it to the semi-finals of a Nickelodeon contest before getting eliminated :(
But I got a good feeling this time. Give it a few more years, I will be shitting up your favorite movies and tv shows.

You know, I don't think I want to say. On the slim chance that I actually do win, they'll likely parade my name and picture around. Y'all aren't ready for that.

I can write normally just fine. It's just that screenplay format is foreign to me and I have no idea about things like length and pacing. I haven't even tried dabbling in it.

Yeah, it's not like writing a short story or a novel. It's kind of like writing a really engaging blueprint for the story of a show/film/etc.
Something you'll hear a lot is the "one page = one minute" rule as far as length goes. But that's more of a rule of thumb for beginners and not an actual guideline to adhere by. It's rare for the script of a show/movie to have the same length as its runtime. In fact, they're pretty much entirely seperate beasts from the finished product.

You can look up screenplays to things that you like for inspiration. Some are harder to find than others, but a decent amount of them are available online if you know where to look.

I would also add that you avoid FYC (For Your Consideration) scripts. You see these pop up when the Oscar roll around and stuff that got nominated put their scripts out online. These are almost always FYC scripts, and what I hate about them is that they're just the finished movie in script form.
Yes, there are people out there whose job is to watch a movie and write a script describing every single little aspect about the movie. Shooting scripts are far more interesting to read and, most importantly, they're by the people who actually wrote the movie.

Disney infamously keeps their scripts locked up. Whenever they do release the screenplay for their movies, it's almost always a FYC scripts. All the scripts available online for, say, Marvel films are FYC scripts. Shit's annoying.

Also, if you're going to do script writing, it's almost mandatory that you get Final Draft. It's easily the best screenwriting software around, it's super convenient, and it's industry standard. Most everyone in the field expect you to be using it.
