Superman declares that to save America, he has to take away all firearms.

Americans in the comic would take offense of course. They hide their guns. They try shooting Superman. But he always finds them. He cannot be stopped. And it turns into the states of America uniting against Superman.

Is it a good thing? Is it a bad thing? Is Superman a hero or villain for doing so? That depends on your personal beliefs. The comic would not outright state that he is either.

Both Superman and The Flash aren't politicians, they haven't been voted in, nor do they have any authority besides that deriving from their powers.
These are not two politicians discussing party direction, these are two people with super powers discussing how they will "make people safer", through using force.

if I were a citizen in the DC universe, Id respect Superman and The Flash over politicians - one of which is an elected Lex Luthor

The guy writing the comic clearly had something to say about it, though. Last I checked, you didn't have to be a politician to write about your political opinions.

The guys point is apt. Not so much about guns specifically, but that if somebody with power is allowed to decide (and enforce) whats right and wrong for others; well sooner or later youre gonna head down a slippery slope.

Yeah I know. Which is why you cant be so black and white with it. But I mean take all this abortion stuff right now. Thats an example of a ruling power deciding for you whats right or wrong, and just like the comic said, people resent them for it.

And the big fear now is that a precedent has been set, and a slippery slope is next.

Which was my initial point: slippery slope is the gun lobby's second line of defense, right after pointing the finger at shit like video games.

I mean, Slippery slope is just an expression. One that both sides employ. Like I said, the big talking point right now is that homosexual marriage will be next up on the chopping block, as a result of the slippery slope from the abortion ban.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Abortion rights are an issue of bodily autonomy, which is fundamental to any free society.

The issue of gun rights are based around a misinterpretation of a text that was written 300 years ago.

There's a clear line here.

Both are considered freedoms to the government. Which really is the only thing that matters. Whether or not you agree with it is moot. If the government decides they can give or take it away, youre just along for the ride.

His arguments make sense in the comics because Superman gets increasingly intense with both his tolerance for crimes and the severity of punishment. This isn't really a debate on gun control that they're having, it's Flash explaining to Superman where the road he's walking leads.

Eventually Superman ends up just killing people who disagree with him. Later in the story that conversation wouldn't have happened. If Superman told Flash "go take the guns" and Flash tried to argue he would just be killed on the spot.

Remember comics aren't real life. Just because something doesn't work in comics doesn't mean it doesn't work in real life.

If Batman kills one person he opens a negative multiverse where he gets a massive kill boner and takes on an op power through some means and just obliterates his current universe.

Only one is necessary and inherent to freedom. You don't need guns to be free. You do need control over your own body.

Like I don't see how the two are remotely comparable.

Naturally, the world leaders were replaced with White Martians and disarming the nukes made it much easier for them to conquer the world.
