My new remote has "tcbest" batteries... why?

Probably cheaper to include in product packaging.

These were the longest lasting of all the batteries on our smoke detectors out of 200 units. Difference of 7-9 months for regular brands to 11-13 for these. You have to get them from special warehouses usually. Bulk carriers usually have them or special ordering companies that also stock and move lots of hvac filters and utilities.

I can understand pack-ins using the cheapest option available... but there's more brands of batteries than brands of chips!

The odd thing is, usually in these instances, cobranding opportunities cause even premier brands to give bulk batches to manufacturers below cost or as part of an overrun.

Yet you hardly ever see good batteries included. Then again, sometimes you see ultra rare hot shit ones that have more juice and life. The ones that came with old brand new Sony high end (back then) digital camera back in the day before they did the rechargeable lithium packs. They had optional wall charger rechargeables made just for that camera, but whatever came with it was badass. It was some Japanese brand with Japanese writing on it.

btw: I have now completed step 2 of assembling the rowing machine I bought last Xmas... I can lift and squat and all sorts of stuff, can't bend over and fiddle with screws and bolts very long :v
