I figured it would be just another generic "lol they eventually start to like each other" rom com, but actually the level of depth that Loid and Yor develop as they come to terms with their genuine desire to raise Anya correctly is surprisingly complex and realistic.

Loid is also a really interesting character because he does such a great job of maintaining this air of being a high functioning, amicable sociopath (on the good side of sociopathy, if that makes sense) but he completely loses it when Yor is insulted.

That's because it's not a romcom. Romcom's suck for romance in part because they are shoved out constantly to the point that they are just rehashes of the same tropes. If you want to see a good romance you'll find it in random genres not about romance because if they are going to put it in when it's not the exact focus it has to be good.

Anyway, Spy X Family is fantastic, is at its heart a gag manga/anime, and Anya must be protected with everything available.

A spy, an assassin, and an esper (mind reader) all end up forming a family and living together while hiding their identifies from one another as they try to accomplish their missions.

In reality, they end up actually forming a reasonably well functioning family and occasionally things get out of hand because of their respective backgrounds.

Hey, for a shitty comedy movie about Christmas, it's not actually horrible. I mean, it's not great. But it's technically watchable and Steve Martin will make you laugh until you realize that the entire movie is carried by him and two other actors.

Yep. But hey, if it helps people realize what they really want in life and they genuinely have a good, wholesome family life as a result then that's better than the typical "whoops gf got pregnant time to marry" or "rush into marriage and now stuck with kids" camps way too many kids are born into only to not have a healthy understanding of relationships or boundaries as a result.

I've met 2 Japanese nationals in recent times and they both got married pretty young. Anecdotal but kind of funny.

I watched the first 3 episodes and it wasn't for me. I'm not a big anime guy, and it falls into a lot of the tropes that make me not a fan. I can see why people like it.
