I got stuck on a game and people told me to use console commands to advance the main quest. Wtf?

Most of the time you press the ~ key, sometimes another key, and you type in commands that are basically cheats.

You have to boot up one of your consoles, connect it to your PC over USB, and then input commands using the controller.

They're commands you can enter to manipulate the game. The "console" refers to the "debug console" interface. For most games, you either enter them in the same place as you would normally enter text for chatting, or the most common default key for opening it is '~'.

Just google "[game title] console commands" and you should pretty easily find a list of all the available commands for the game you're playing.
