The MCU is in a terrible place, completely directionless, soulless and cowardly.

This film takes the cake though, its probably not the worst MCU movie, but its probably the most disposable and low effort.

I know people jump on Marvel for overloading their movies with jokes but at least theyre funny jokes usually, but there is maybe two scenes in this movie where theyre not making quip after quip and barely a handful got a smirk out of me. I was in a packed theater and honestly cant remember a single laugh.

And the plot is so braindead. Full of the worst type of exposition and happenstance. No one feels real here, sure its a superhero movie but my God theres wooden and then theres everyone in this film.

Throwing a cancer subplot into a film as dumb as this is so shitty too, completely out of place and lame.

I worry for the MCU. Everything in Phase 4 has been pretty lame and theres no great stuff on the horizon. Even Spider-Man was only good because of brining in nostalgic cameos fun but ultimately meant nothing. Its all totally disposable.

Nope, big fan of the MCU. Hating where Phase 4 is meandering to nowhere though, these low effort films are purely to spin wheels. Its insulting.

Sure, every movie is in the grand scheme of things, and fuck its a Disney movie, one of the most cynical, money grabbing company in the world, but up until this phase theyve put out a generally good product. Were talking about the 29th entry in like the most successful movie series of all time, its disappointing theyve given up trying and are just cashing in on that cache.

Loki is the only Phase 4 plot I even care about. And I kind of wish it would just be its own thing instead of having to set up a bigger Phase 4 plot.

Loki was absolute at its best before it veered towards "here's the guy who's gonna be the next Thanos".

I still liked it. I thought the first act, with the Guardians, was weak, but it improved after. I also found a lot of it amusing or funny, but sometimes that admittedly clashed with the more serious themes.

I also do not know how this movie fits in to anything, so Phase 4 does still feel directionless to me. But none of this changes the fact that I enjoyed it, even if a lesser Marvel movie.

Regarding this movie... isn't "Female Thor" the same comics where they literally had a racist become a black man to essentially "fix his racism" or something? And the same where said Female Thor also kissed a guy suddenly and her rationale was basically "life is short"?

And ah, that was also the comic that had a anti-feminist robber iirc

TBF, I was reading a post from a blog on Tumblr that was showing these panels but... it's kinda what made me dismiss this character as another obvious politically correct character. For very easy reasons that I've mentioned.

I mean

was the female Thor run in the comics even regarded moderately as any good? I don't think it was.

the thing is all the good Marvel movies took from award winning runs of their comics.

Civil War
Infinity War

so ya, no surprise that when the comic they use for the movie was a wet fart, the movie is too

can't wait for the movie where Jean makes Iceman gay using her mind powers....

Actually Jane as Thor is a pretty good run and sold as well as previous Thor comics.

Also, the comics version of Civil War wasn't very well-received and the films were nothing like either of those comics. How good a comic story is has never had any bearing on how good the film version is.

It's not just my opinion (I actually think the backlash was a bit much.) It's a pretty general consensus among comic readers. The main complaint being the character assassination of certain heroes.

But that's irrelevant since my main point was about the films needing to adapt popular storylines to be good. They don't. The Dark Knight wasn't adapted from a specific story, for example. And the ones that do tend to stray away from the source (Infinity War.)

Civil War was a huge deal and while it was widely criticized, it was also massively popular. In fact, it's still regarded as the last great arc. Its reception is no different from any large Marvel event that comes to mind for me in that some was good, but the overall experience has lots of stuff you can do without, or it just goes in a different direction with the characters which you don't accept.

Like when Spiderman got the black suit originally, and it took them a long long time to create the Venom mythology we love today. The original black suit arc kinda sucked haha and there's a reason they haven't gone back to it. But it kicked out these ideas that made for great progress. Hell, I'm still up to bat for a Secret Wars event. Which I think is on the table

. Anyway! The difference is that Civil War wasn't nothing, and it wasnt a spin-off, for better or for worse. There's a lot of stuff there that sets it aside from other big events.

What people didn't like was how Civil War left(ruined) every comic continuum in a huge rut, and it was inescapable, if you just wanted to read a regular Spider-Man story without all this Civil War stuff, that wasn't really an option even after the event ended for the main books. They changed up the costumes. It was a mess, but generally speaking the start and finale and implications are top notch.

But yeah they wanted us reading Ultimate and Zombies and buying the strategy game , and I don't think a lot of fans appreciated that. Ultimate was what it was already, and honestly I don't remember enjoying a single issue of Ultimate X-Men, or anything past Ultimate Avengers 1, and Spider-Man just starts to drop off more and more when Harry comes back, until they got to Miles like literally 2 generations later, so.... And we all loved zombies. And Civil War wasn't gonna sell anyone on a strategy game lol

I wouldn't say terrible, but there's a bit too much off to ignore. Characters all feel off and underutilized. The Guardians sucked and felt nothing like the interactions from IW/Endgame.

The weirdest thing was how a packed theater barely laughed/cheered outside the space goats and Korg finding a BF. I remember with Ragnarok, stuff like the "OMG, the hammer pulled you off?" had the theater in tears.

I left NWH and MoM pretty satisfied. With this, I left a bit disappointed. Especially the Jane stuff. I was expecting cringe, but instead, it's pretty sad and I'm not sure why they went with that.

Terrible is probably overexaggerated, because it's not a terrible film in the grand scheme of things, but it's so cynical, cowardly and poor compared to most MCU films, and especially compared to Ragnarok

The movie was fine. There were some obvious issues due to cutting scenes out FOR INSTANCE: they never explain how Gorr finds out he needs Stormbreaker. There is the mural showing he needs the bifrost, but IIRC only a few people knew the axe could summon it. There was apparently a cut scene with Peter Dinklage's Eitri where Gorr questions him, which seems like it would have had that info

This movie needed another 20-30 minutes. The acting was solid. The Jane storyline was incredibly predictable but it was nice to see her have some fun in a Taika movie. Gorr was.....a bit disappointing. Bale was acting his ass off, but I GUARANTEE that they cut out a ton of scenes that develop his character. It's not as good as Ragnarok, but that is a high bar to begin with.

I don't believe there is a stipulation that you need to be worthy to wield it. Since the necro sword is a symbiote of sorts it probably told him how to activate the power. Although in this movie, it seems like if you just slam it into the ground it works as well, so idk.
