Cool, just develop and market your own product, then you can pocket it all. Easy.

This chart seems dumb. If they want to make a point that you pay most of your money to rent don't call everything that isn't rent "discretionary income." Food, clothing, medicine, doctors visits, etc. None of that is discretionary.

I saw a video that made a great point.

Working your butt off 40 hours a week just for your income to be swallowed up whole by rent and other living expenses isn't a reward.

In a society that values financial gain over personal fulfillment, that's very not good.

I agree. But for society to work the way we have it today we need people to do things like build bridges, collect trash, ring up your order at McDonalds, etc. Is 40 hours a lot? Yeah, And maybe we could reduce that. But we will ALWAYS be wage slaves because if we weren't we wouldn't have society.

Yes this is one reason why wages have stagnated while these companies continue to grow year after year. Profits don't get re invested into the workforce which is why I laugh at people who argue about minimum wage being fare.

These companies arnt willing to take a pay cut or decrease profit margins to pay their workers more.

This.

Also, the thing people hate most about their job usually isn't the job inherently, but the way it's organized and managed, which usually spills over into other factors such as physical/mental/psychological toll, physical safety and work-life balance.

It's actually crazy how many workplace grievances can be boiled down to understaffing, micromanagement, dumbass policies and procedures created by someone who isn't performing the day-to-day tasks, corporate bureaucracy and/or lack of planning leading to headaches for frontline workers.

if you add up all the money being made and divide it by the number of workers you'd get 133k.

Let's check it out. There are 157 million workers in America, times 133,000 is 20.9 trillion dollars.

Google USA GDP: 20.9 trillion dollars.

That's how.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/4/AAZtnkAADbOs.jpg

From Global Inequality: A New Approach for the Age of Globalization:

People at point A had the highest real income growth: some 80 percent during the twenty-year period. Growth was high, however, not just for those near the median but for a broad swath of people, ranging from those around the 40th global percentile to those around the 60th. This is, of course, one-fifth of the world population. Who are the people in this group, the obvious beneficiaries of globalization? In nine out of ten cases, they are people from the emerging Asian economies, predominantly China, but also India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. They are not the richest people in these countries, because the rich are placed higher in the global income distribution (that is, more to the right in the graph). They are the people around the middle of the distributions in their own countries, and in the world, too.

In the same way that China dominates at point A, so do the United States, Japan, and Germany dominate at point B. People at point B generally belong to the lower halves of their countries income distributions For simplicity, these people may be called the lower middle class of the rich world. And they are certainly not the winners of globalization.

It's really not that difficult. Average worker productivity is $133,000, of which $102,000 goes to corporations and the rest ($31,000) goes to the worker. Of the amount that goes to the worker, $3,000 goes to federal taxes and $13,000 goes to rent, leaving the worker with ~$15,000 out of their original $133,000.

This is the part I don't understand. Long-term for both corporations and the economy it is better if workers are paid better wages. The greed of a few really ruin it for everyone else.

Companies maybe, but not the share holders.
By that I mean the actual organization itself would be healthier but the pockets of share holders would be just a little less.
