I'm about 1/4 of the way through the book. I'm making good progress, slowly, but steadily. I'm taking the exam on July 23rd, and at my current pace, I'll be done with the book by the 16th. Then it's just a matter of internalizing the information until I take the exam that Saturday. With the new Cisco exams, the CCNP Enterprise core exam is the same as the CCIE written exam, which surprised me. Gotta do this to renew my CCNP cert.

The fact that I'm actually comprehending CCIE level material is mind blowing to me. I remember when I was doing tech support and barely understood a tiny fraction of this stuff. I've come so far.

Wow awesome job! I had no idea what any of what you mentioned was until searching what you've mentioned. I watched about 10 minutes from a 2 hour module. And I can't imagine the amount of terms, and time you would have to spend integrating all that into yourself. I can't imagine the logic build behind it all.

Still great work. And very best of luck to you!

Yeah, that's one of the things about network engineering... It requires understanding a lot of information, but once you got it... you got it. It's very complex, but it's not hard. All of the information follows logical processes and nothing is a matter of opinion. Stuff works the way it works according to the rules of how it works and it doesn't matter if people think otherwise.

Companies literally pay CCIEs to do nothing so they can tell investors they have a CCIE on staff

The other part of this is that I don't see myself going to California to do the lab exam any time soon. I want to branch out into the DevNet track after this. I also don't feel like paying $1900 + travel + lodging just for an attempt.

BTW I hear the lab test for the CCIE is to set up a network according to specifications, then they throw you out of the room and some techs go in and screw everything up, and then you have to go back in to fix it.

Yeah, I've heard that as well. I'm not sure when/if I'm gonna do the CCIE Enterprise lab exam because there are other skillsets I want to develop.

Hmm, the US location for the CCIE lab exam is now in Richardson, TX...

I'll think about it, but it still feels so daunting, lol. 8 hour all day lab exam... $1900...
