I felt like I was splitting duties with my two lists too much causing me to procrastinate on both of them so I picked one to focus on - so far it has worked. I'm also actually starting to come out of the other side of my covid situation, I really can't stress enough how I've just been at 70% capacity like the entire last month. sorry, I hate how my writing projects always get out of hand like this, I know nobody even cares about sgdq 22 at this point lol

What if I updated this

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach

Hey, I wonder why I lost momentum on watching every run of this GDQ? This block is a little rough on keeping me motivated - there have been some great runs but I haven't really wanted to keep going for a bunch of these. This run was infamously bad, and I see why. In addition to being just a really boring run with barely anything to talk about at all - mostly just an hour of walking around briskly - they turn the brightness up to comical levels to be able to see, which is understandable to some extent I guess because the game is dark, but it's absolutely blinding to look at. As a viewer, it's just a terrible choice. Not quite the worst run of the marathon, but it's close. The commentary was okay but it got really repetitive with the lore jokes towards the end and didn't really give me much of a reason to sustain my interest in this run which wasn't really there to begin with. Yeah, this was a bad run - not bad enough to be truly embarrassing for GDQ, but the fact that they made THIS the bonus run feels really suspect in retrospect. They had to stall to get this one through and it barely felt worth it.

I don't have a bullet point list for either of these, by the way - I feel like just watching some of these runs a little more lowkey without talking about every single point to help me get back into the swing of things. There wasn't much to mention anyway.

Outlast

Meh. It wasn't a terrible run, but it wasn't that interesting because kind of like the last run, it's mostly just a horror game where you briskly walk through some hallways, do some occasional out of bound stuff and that's mostly it. The out of bound stuff is okay but not that compelling. I do like the runner and the commentators here, so that helps a little bit. Sharkhat's got a nice shark hat. I have very little to say about this one, it's a pretty dull game to watch. Best chuckle for me was the trick that's just called "Stairs", where you climb some stairs.

Omori

Okay, I kinda stalled on this one because I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch the run, and I decided I don't. I'm gonna give Omori another chance at some point so I'll skip this run. I wanted to watch EVERY run, but hey, I'm already way behind and this run's a long one. I'm sure it's great! They were hyping it up a lot.

Greak: Memories of Azur

Oh for god's sake, another run that's encouraging people to send in donation comments with puns. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to sound like a curmudgeon! If you like the flood of pun donations, good for you! But they're starting to make me realize why watching all these runs isn't a good idea because they sure do get old.

I didn't take a whole lot of notes on this run. It's a fairly generic looking Metroidvania and I mostly just put it on in the background and didn't pay much attention. It was FINE, the commentary was solid, but I just didn't find the run or the game particularly engaging. Nothing wrong with it, really, it just kind of looked like a low-rent Hollow Knight.

I think a lot of these runs are kind of long and not that interesting so I'm not gonna stress myself to write too much about them - that was something that was holding me back from continuing this list.

- "People are responding to the puns" Noooooo!

- "Oh my gosh, we have so many puns" Please don't

- There was another 'that's never happened before.'

- This is, weirdly, probably the first time I've ever heard of someone using an accessibility feature in a speedrun. Changing settings or easy difficulty is one thing, but accessibility settings is weird.

- The WR was like 36 minutes when this run was accepted; the run is quite a bit faster than that due to new tech they found since. I'm sure this happens a lot but it's interesting to hear.

- They have pun donations leftover. Just trash 'em.

Infernax

I didn't pay too much attention to this run either, but it was deliberate! I get the sense right away that I might be interested in playing this game later, especially since it's new. Possibly a prospect for a game I might like to play for my 2022 games list eventually! A cool little Castlevania-ish game with a Shovel Knight-ish flair to it. I think this run is fun, but again, I tried not to focus on it to keep it fresh for me to potentially play later. I did watch, though.

- I thought this was gonna just be a little Castlevania-like but it's a little more fucked up. Fun! The first boss was weird and creepy.

- Extreme Shovel Knight vibes in the soundtrack in some places here. I'm pretty sure Virt didn't write this, it doesn't sound like him, but there were definitely some cues taken.

- ...Oh lmao it was composed by FamilyJules, a guy who I'm pretty sure hangs out with Virt, so there you go.

- "What's up attack?" "Not much. What's up with you?"

- This game has orbs, of course.

- There's a lot of crazy tech in this game that I didn't pay close attention to, they do some weird death abuse where they're undead and just kill the boss super fast while being invincible. I love games that have stupid crap like this.

I didn't watch the run but Greak as a game itself is solid. It does have some "low-rent Hollow Knight" vibes but is much more of a puzzle platformer and has a very different story/setting.

Just saving this for now, I've been focused on trying to finish my other list while also having a rough week - will revisit what to do with this, watching every run with commentary on everything might have been too much and I might just pick off the runs I really wanted to watch, or maybe i'll be able to get back into the rhythm once I don't have the other list to finish off

Maybe it's time to rank the AGDQ 2023 list by order of interest.

I think at this point I'd like to jump ahead and watch the runs I actually really want to watch. I lost momentum in this project because I couldn't do it at the same time as my games list, which I wanted to focus on, and now that I've been out of it for months I can't get invested again, especially not during a game block that doesn't interest me. I tried to watch a couple runs and I just wasn't feeling it.
