Karate for adults

This topic was inspired by Murray (50ish years old) from Stranger Things. The way he mockingly says "You know I have karate on Thursday afternoons!" And being asked who the oldest student in class is besides him he replies "well, theres that 16 year old, but i handled him real easily."

If you live in America yes due to the fact that 99% of dojos are fake.

Depends on the place. It's a real martial art but most of the places you'll find are bullshit.

So yeah, a lot of this prejudice against Karate is because of the number of McDojos opened in America during the 70s and 80s that were basically just setup to be "diploma factories" where kids can get after school and pretend to learn "self-defense". In reality the intrusction was really bare-boned and prioritized being as accessible as possible instead getting dedicated practioners a quality training place.

There is plenty of very skilled athletes that practice and compete in very legitimate karate competition around the world.
