I dont think hes trying to argue cigarettes dont cause cancer. I think hes trying to raise awareness about harmful chemicals used in the workplace

TBH if you work in a place with an asbestos problem but you also smoke and get lung cancer I would probably point my finger at the asbestos first.

It turns out that the phosphorus fertilizer that tobacco needs to live was heavily contaminated with uranium and thorium, which eventually decays to polonium. Polonium 210 is an absurd alpha emitter, with a half-life of about 138 days, and loves to stick to the bottom of tobacco leaves.

This is how I understood it. Yes smoking is bad and can lead to cancer. But there are plenty of other nasty things in many different industries that are going to cause cancer long before the cigarettes do. And these companies are getting away with exposing their slaves to them by scapegoating cigarettes for the cancer cases they are responsible.
